I have a new T-REX 450SE that I am building, and I am now at the point of setting up the GYRO. As listed, I have a JR XP8103 radio and a Fatuba 401 GYRO, and I don't know how to set up the JR radio. Can anyone post some step by step instructions, or point me to where I can find them? I watched Bob's video but he is using a Futaba radio which does not relate at all to the JR :arggg:
JR has -150 to +100 travel. I believe Futaba has 0 to 256 or something like that. The only difference is what numbers relate to which gain and how much.
Usually people put the gain adjustment on the gear switch, there by having heading hold and normal mode at the flip of a switch. The travel adjustment on the gear channel (if that is where you put it) will give you the amount of gain. The farther away from 0 you get the more gain. If the switch has heading hold in the position you don't like, just use servo reversing to get it where you want it (on the gain channel)
The travel adjustment on the rudder channel adjusts pirouetting speed. If you crank it up to 150% it will piro like crazy. I think my rudder travel is set to around 90-100 on the Sceadu. It gives me an authoritive tail, but doesn't blow the belt up when I hammer the tail. This is mostly a matter of preferance.
The expo on the rudder channel works pretty much like you would expect. I use expo to make the rudder feel the same as the other channels.
Installation is fairly straight forward, keep the linkages smooth and slop free, and at 90º to the rod. Most helis will ahve a bit of pitch offset in the tail blades at neutral position. Use a long servo horn, but not outrageous. For some reason 18-20 mm sticks in my mind. Use the potentiometer on the gyro to adjust max travel. Try to get as much as possible in each direction.
This is all pretty generic, your setup may vary.

Thanks for the help. If I understand correctly, I am to use gyro sensitivity as well as travel adjustment for AUX2. (AUX2 is what the manual lists as the gyro gain channel. I have a choice of setting control of this channel to T. Hold switch or PIT. Trim knob. I chose the T. Hold switch)
I have a couple of questions. When I flip the T. Hold switch on, is the 401 gyro light suppose to do anything? It currently does nothing.
Also, what is the typical setting in both of these functions? I set Gyro sensitivity 0 and 1 to 80%, and travel adjustment for AUX2 to 60% per Bob’s video.
Is there someone who can sit down and do a step by step written how to set up with the 8103 JR to set up a CCPM T-Rex. The instruction book that JR gives you leaves so much to be desire they think everyone knows how to use their radio from get go. Please there must someone who could help all of us who are new to the heli's to use the JR radio. I would pay someone to make a video like Bob Finless makes for setting up the T-Rex using a Futaba radio. I asked Bob if he could and was told he will try later on when he has time. That could be a long time no punt ment for Bob he is doing a great service with all his video's that he has on this forum. I take my hat off to him, thank's again Bob for what yu are doing. Thank you , a very frustrated JR radio owner

Ivan's pretty much nailed the step by step.
If you are really stuck, I can be reached by phone, PM me for the number, or PM yours.
Overall, it's easy once you get a grip on it.

YOU REALLY NEED TO GET A SECOND OPINION ON THE LONG SERVO HORN. YOU REALLY NEED TO BE AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE TO THE SERVO CENTER. I ACTUALLY DRILLED ANOTHER HOLE EVEN CLOSER THAN THE CLOSEST. THIS WILL HELP GIVE YOU BETTER RESOLUTION ON THE TAIL SERVO. WHAT SERVO ARE YOU RUNNING WITH THE 401?

Hi guys, i have exactly the same problem here!! Ive just started out with RD heli's and have purchased a TREX 450 CDE, with a GY 401 gyro. Im totally lost how to set it up on my JR X3810/8103 transmittor.
Im at a stage where the gyro can be switched to heading hold mode, and turned off again. However when hovering it starts hunting really bad. My local model shop says the gain needs adjusting on the tx, however the gain settings on the transmittors menu's dont make any difference at all!!
I found a PDF that says you need to do stuff in mix3 ?? Help!!!! :bomb:
Many thanks in advance!

plug the gyro gain (single lead plug) into channel 5 and set ATV or EPA at 63% and adjust from there.

Thank for the response! However im slighty lost!
The gyro plug with the 3 wires is plugged into socket 4, and the one with the single cable is in socket 5.
My problem is the gain settings in gyro sens screen make no difference.
Should I be using the travel adjust screen to be making gain changes on the transmittor?

dont bother with the gyro sense menu, it's screwy..
channel 5 should be slaved to a switch by default, one position will be HH (solid Light) the other the light will blink ( Rate mode)
Reverse channel 5 as necessary to have the light solid with the switch in the rear position.
Now go to ATV menu and select ch 5, set the value for HH at 63%, flip the switch and set the value also to 63%.
Test hover with transmitter in the same menu screen.
If the tail wags, reduce the value until it stops.
let me know if that makes sense..

Ok, i think im getting there....
I think the screen names may be a bit different on the US version of the TX, I dont have an ATV menu, so i assumed you ment the TRVL ADJ screen.
Currently ive turned the GYRO SENS screen to INH to disable it.
Then i went the the TRVL ADJ menu, and adjusted the GEAR (think this is chan 5)positive value to 60%.
Ive tried hovering the heli like this, and it seems a LOT more stable!!!! If i change it back to 100% the tail starts wagging again so its definately working!!!
You Sir, are a geniuos!!

Go to Raptortechnique.com
1. How to electronics
2. Gyro Setups
3, Futaba GY401 using the JR8103
Great instructions

Cheers ! :D
I sure wish I had seen this post two months ago :bomb:
I guess what got me too, was the GYRO SENS screen. :arggg:
Now that I know it has nothing to do with it, I have INH it and am going to use the gear TRVL ADJ.
Can't wait for daylight! Thank you gentlemen very much!!

Dont thank me, thank WayneBrown!!!!
Id be interested in finding out what values you end up with on the TX. I seem to get a very tiny bit of wag every now and then still. Moving the gyro closer to the main rotor spindle helped with the use of a different bracket.

It Flies! And the tail dosent wag any more  I put it in hover to day and it was rock solid. I set the TRVL ADJ for the gear at 55, Since idea72 gave me the impresion 60% might still be too much. Man it flies great! I went to alb1661 link, and I think there is still another way to do it, but right now, why mess with some thing that works. Thank you WayneBrown. :glasses2:

no problem guys, glad it worked out!
I use 63% as a starting value so as not to destroy the servo or linkage until you adjust it. It is by no means meant to fly there.
Each machine is different, and will require a different percentage.
