View Full Version : Switching from FM to PCM

I apologize if this is a dumb question, but I have searched and searched different forums and cannot find a clear answer. I have a JR XP6102 transmitter for my T-rex. I bought the FM version with the micro receiver r610UL and micro servos. I was getting a lot of interference and already experienced a crash due to glitching. Since the crash I have fixed most of my glitching problems by moving the electronics around different ways but I still get those occasional glitches. None of my friends flying in the same area with PCM experience the glitches i do. I would like to swith to PCM. Is it possible to do this with my transmitter? Can I just buy a PCM receiver, some kind of crytal set and be up in the air with PCM or is it more complicated? The same radio is available with PCM setups, but if it came from the factory as an FM radio can I convert to PCM or do I need to buy a new transmitter which is already set up for PCM?
I am not trying to cover up my glitch problem with PCM, most of my glitch problems are now solved..... but I would like all of my friends flying PCM to stop making fun of me for being the only heli guy in our group flying FM :D
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have learned so much from this forum and all of the infamous "Finless" videos. Thanks to anyone who responds :D

That is what I always do. When all else fails read the instruction manual. <G>
Seems to work most of the time.

Hi Funky
Yes you can switch your 6102 to PCM.
I did, started out with PPM had too many glitches and switched to PCM.
You do have to buy a PCM reciever and just use the same crystal thats in your FM reciever. Make sure you change your transmitter to SPCM modulation.

Thanks for the help. I did read that in the manual, but I didnt know if that applied to my transmitter as well or if there is even a difference in transmitters between mine and the ones already set up for PCM. This is my first remote beyond a 2 channel am car radio, so I am new to the FM PCM game. The manual doesnt cover much at all on the micro electronics package with the micro receiver and the manual assumes you are using the 7 channel PCM receiver. I just wanted to make sure I could change this before putting more money into a new receiver and then finding out I still cant use it. I couldn't really find anything about the crystals so I wasnt sure if these would need to be changed as well, so thank you Tommyboy196 for clearing that up.
