View Full Version : trex servos, what are you all running?

Hi All,

I'm curious what servos you all are running on your cyclic and tail. I've been running hs-56's on my cyclic and an hs-65 on my tail.
I had a minor 'thumb dumb' and wankered her from about 2-3feet. This should not have been a major crash. I snapped a tail blade. When I repaired it and spooled her up, I found I had stripped the heck out of two hs-56's. I could only cobble together one working servo from all the bits of the two. (toasted one servo motor).

Are any of you running the hs-65MG's (MG=Metal Gear)??

Cheers,
Leslie

I still have the HS55's in mine w/an HS50 on the tail. Haven't gotten around to switching since I have a couple of gear sets to get me through some crashes. It seems like a lot more are running those HS56's. How do you like them?

Hi Whirley-Girl,

I've been running 56's for a while on my other birds. I'm now flying more aggessively and I'm not thrilled with the 56's.
I like the torque and speed, but they seem really fragile for a trex. This is why I'm curious if anyone is running the metal geared 65's. I'm picking up three 65's with metal gears tomorrow. I will put them in when I need to (probably soon) I'll let you all know of my progress, I'm annoyed with killing 50.00 of servos on a small bump. A data point, the 56's are around 25.00 and the 65's (MG) are 35.00. We will see how they work out.

Cheers,
Leslie

Keep us posted. I too am starting to throw the T-Rex around with more authority...fortunately I've been keeping it a couple mistakes high and have met Mother Earth yet. FF's are usually when I get low and stupid.

Hi Whirly-Girl,

That's exactly how I communed with the ground. Doing some figure eights in some windy conditions and I did not react quick enough. oops. I have found I have some bad habits. I like to whip the trex around in a certain orientaion on the figure eights. I was trying to break this 'comfort zone' and bingo.... there's the ground. The hardest thing is learning just from one's own flying and the forum. I've been looking for other pilots in my area. But, it's a little hard.

Maybe I should move to Cali

cheers,
Leslie

Yeah, atleast we'd have each other to fly with. I'm the only heli pilot at our field. I have to drive about an hour to meet up with any heli guys here. And I haven't done so in a while since my husband is away and I hardly get to fly as it is with 2 little ones.

HS55's in mine w/an HS50 on the tail

This is the setup I have as well. When I start feeling more comfortable flying and can fly without training wheels, I will switch to HS56's /HS65 tail servo.

I had HS-55's for cyclic and HS-50 on the tail until a week ago. I put an HS-81 on the tail and HS-65 HB's on the cyclic and it is a new bird. Just the servo change made me a much better pilot (or did it just cover up my bad flying). Another "which came first the chicken or the egg" riddle. Either way I love the way it flies now and am all smiles. Plus I got the Federal Law Enforcement job I have been trying to get for the last nine months. Anyone flying around Artesia, New Mexico or Casa Grande Arizona? That helps with the smiles. :D

Hello Leslie,

I will answer for kjfly(as she has no idea what is in the trex -yet). She is learning more though.
Running HS-56 on cyclic and 9650 digital tail. I have had no issues yet, but also no serious crashes either. Let us know how the HS-65MG's work out.

Hi girls...
Have you considered futaba servos? I find them more precise and tougher... for only a little extra cost.
I use S3107 on the cyclic/collective and S3110 on the tail

cheers

HS65MGs is the way to go.

planted my Rex pretty hard alot of times and the MGs still work great

I am just now building my rex-450 and am using the HS65MG for cyclic and although was going to use the S9650 for the tail, the LHS guys who has/flys four different rexy's and said the new Futaba S3154 is the new hot servo. He changed all his 9650s to this new servo which is actually slightly smaller than the 65MG. The 9650 is a huge servo comparatively and much heavier. If it does not work out, it was only $35 so no real harm done.

Hi all,

Yes, I am using the hs65mg's and I absolutely love them. I was using the 56's and 65's (karbonites) for quite a while. I found when I started pushing the envelope a bit they would strip just looking at them.

I've been running the mg's all summer and not one problem. I don't think I will ever go back. okay maybe briefly if its sunday and the LHS is closed

Cheers,
Leslie
