To spongy for me...

His velcro strap will tighten it down good. I found the Zeal is great on Gassers, but on electrics you have to really strap down the gyro or sensor or it will induce tail wag if you leave the gyro spongy mounted on the Zeal. I would bet that Jeff knows this already, but it needs to be strapped down pretty tight.

But if you tighten the strap, won't it then hit the frame?

I left enough room for that.
If it does hit the frame it would only be due to a crash, then there will be a lot of other parts that need replacing.

If you are worried about the frame then you can just move the gyro back another 3mm and have lots of clearance.

I use the same "sponge" on one of my Rexes, just tied it a little with a velcro strap. Works perfect. I don't know exactly how something can be too spongy because it will take away vibrations that influence the gyro.

When Jason Krause put my mount on his SE, he mounted it at first by using double sided tape not only on the gyro, but on the mount too. He thought it was a bit too spongy mounted that way. Maybe it makes no difference unless you fly at his level of skill. Just trying to help. If it works for you, great. Good Luck.

I doubt that I will ever get anywhere near JK's level of flying in this lifetime :(

Yep. One can only hope. Even though I can't tell the difference, I still think that I will benifit by following the lead of the best flyers.

No problem. Glad we could help. First I heard of it was from Finless, way back when no one was doing it.

Hi guys. A noob here...

Why is mounting the gyro on top bad? Is this a functional issue, or just damage prevention during crash?

Damage issue. Most crashes cost you less that $50. Add in a gyro and now you can tack on $140. Its your most expensive component. The flybars hits the gyro and destroys it in certain crashes. This can happen in a bad crash, or even a hover crash gone bad if you are unlucky. :arggg: Bottom line, it will eventually get ya!

Very good to know. I've got a Predator Gasseron order w/ GY611 ($350.00: Ouch!). And if there is a way to fit the gyro somewhere else I will most certainly do so. If not, does your product fit predators?

Probably not. I custom fit them for each heli. I'm not sure whether the predator has this same problem.

rdlohr,
I just sent you an email...
I have a question for the XL frame install... You say I need to glue into the boom square mount to secure, but I am wondering if I do that will I be able to replace the boom when needed and what if I need to open the frame? Or are your thoughts just to secure the mount to one side of the frame? Also where can I get the shoe goop?

Let me know, today is my only day to work on the Heli.

Mike

Anyone have pics????

hi Bob,
i've noticed in one of your pics that some blackish nylonish? covering is used to cover/seperate all the servo (and other) leads.

What excactly do you use and how? (the servo connector through the tube?).

pardon the stupid question but it does look very neat and durable.

cheers

myrddin, use a rubber cement which is felxible and you will have no problems replacing the boom. I would also use a safety strap so if the glue lets go the gyro doesnt fall!

Essie, that is just heat shrink tubing! I fold up the wires and stuff it in the tubing and shrink it with heat.

What about that shoe goop you guys talk about, is that the best way to go? And if so where can I get it? Walmart?

thanks Bob.

I haven't made one specifically for that. Send me a closeup picture.
