I know the heliproz brand gets Lot of grief on the forums but i have had no problems with any of it, so, i recently (AKA yesterday) put their full metal head onto my raptor 50 and thought i would make a little writeup about it as there is only ever talk about how QuickUK is great and QWW sucks in the metal rapter parts ballgame.
Not looking for any performance improvement other then replacing the wear, nor bling factor, just a bit more piece of mind knowing that there is something a bit more substantial in there holding everything together I ordered the head in the hopes that it would fly just as well as stock. It does
Building
======
Building it was a no-brainer however their instructions were non-existant all you get is a small photograph of the finished product and an ad for how wonderful an upgrade this is for your "raptor 30/50 v1 or v2"; this is inside the container so you have to have bought it to get to this bit of advertising :roll:. Luckily the parts are divided into little bags so you have an idea which bolts belong to which subassembly.
Even though they tout it as a complete setup you need your existing linkages and the spacers they provide to go behind the blade grips are substantially thinner then stock (i used the stock ones)
Flying
======
Having never flown any heli with a metal head other then a tempest i have nothing to compare it to. However having had 2 flights on it there a drastic difference then the stock head -- it gets a more locked in feel in the hover, more like a larger heli, probably due to the weight as it feels heavier with it on. Also feels like some expo was removed yet none was.
First flight was just hovering and checking that none of the bolts would work their way loose. Second flight was some mild flying: here is where the head becomes very noticable, the heli is so much quieter. Blade 'thwap' in high G manuveours was lessened and when you did pull it hard enough to notice it had a less violent tone to it. FFF was a bit faster (possibly due to the weight) and had the same locked in feel as the hover (using stock paddles). Flip rate seemed to be about the same as the stock setup. Funnels became alot quieter with alot less blade noise as well. And rolls seemed abit more smooth.
The finish on the head was a bit unusual textured silver on the headblock and grips and a flat silver finish on the rest of the parts. Too bad they don't come in anodized black as it is a bit 'blingy' for my liking however it seems to offer a bit of an improvement in flight as well as alot of peice of mind, which was all i was looking for anyways. Looks to be a keeper so far, adn it came with a mainshaft and flybar wich are always good to have. :roll:
