So I got my 4#3B last night. I've got good experience on an EF Mash coax so after 10 or so hard crashes I got it to hover okay.
I did happen to break the CF tail rotor shaft, the rotor fell off. For now, im using a bent up paperclip just so i can fly it.
I read one good mod, was the shaft from an old tail motor. Is this still the best setup. I was going to just buy a new tail rotor, and a spare motor (only 4.50 from wowhobbies) and pull the shaft out and use that..
Thanks!

You can also use shaft from main brushed motor.

The bent paperclip may just bend your bearings. For the short term I would cut the canopy rod, use it, and find something else to hold the canopy on with

Last night after a hit I lost the little rubber stopper on the other end. Any suggestions as to what works as a good alternative. If I use the motor shaft does it need any stopper still?
Thanks!

I've successfully used a little piece of heat-shrink tubing, maybe with a little CA if it's not tight enough.
Myself, I wouldn't trust friction alone to hold it in place. I don't want to be looking for those little bearings....

One other thing you could use is a small piece of thin wire insulation. (usually off alarm or thermostat wire)

Great tutorial!
I tried this yesterday, and it worked well -- unfortunately, somehow I slightly bent the motor shaft. I'll just wait for another dead motor;)

Thx john aeras, Dusty1000 and al_evans.
Normally, unless you own more than one 4#3s, you will only need to use one shaft and two pinions. It's almost UNBREAKABLE!
