Well, I think I want to get a gasser. I recently looked at an outline of costs it would be for me to get a great raptor 50, and it was around $2000 w/o starting equipment. Which is what I planned.

So is there anyway I can get a gasser for around that price. You don't have to include radio, reciever, or servo's, because I will be buying a futaba 9c super with the 9252's included to replace my 7c.

Look around used. PM Rodney and ask he usually knows a few people.

Are you looking to go new or used? I'm partial to the Bergen Intrepid myself. I've got an EB. New with gyro and 800mm blades, it was right around your target price.

New, I don't like anything used since unless you seen everything done to it, it is hard to say how "like new" it really is.

Also, can the bergen intrepid do 3d?

A gasser is going to cost more because the base kit is twice the price of a Raptor 50. The motor is slightly more than a Hyper 50 and the larger blades cost more.

You're not really comparing apples to apples because the airframes are different sizes so you have to expect the larger (.90 sized) gasser to cost more overall.

I'm not completly up to speed on the US prices but $2000 should get you very close to a MA Spectra-G, Zenoah 231, Hatori or Century Pipe, Gyro/tail servo and a set of 710mm blades.

I paid roughly the equivelent to US$2200 for all that kit in Australia and the retailers here don't discount like they do in the US.

You won't need any starting equipment as you can use the pull starter. All you'll need is a 1 gallon fuel can and a bulb type fuel pump (Dubro 519) to get you started.

If I set my budget at $2500 (not including radio, servos, recievers), would that be high enough to include everything that I would need to build a decent, 3d capable machine? I do realize that start off costs will be higher, but the fact fuel is only $3.00 a gallon vs $20 gallon, the differance will pay off very quickly.

I don't have a link to one but I'm sure a search would yield a video of Malorie doing 3-D with her Intrepid. Not being into that myself, I don't know which if any maneuvers it might not be capable of. I am happy not to have to cart the nitro support equipment around and 3 bucks a gallon for fuel doesn't hurt either :D

Looking at Rick's Website for Prices

MA Spectra-G $1,045
Zenoah g231PUH $280
Z-RC Carb Insulator $35
Hatori #957 pipe $180 from CyberHeli (Or $137 for Century Torpedo V2 with restrictor from Ricks)
Radix 710mm Main Blades $115
Futaba 611 Gyro and 9256 servo $400

That's all you need to get you started and that comes to $2055

Other optional nice to have items but not essential in the beginning are:
CSM RevLock $75
Stator Gator (Gasser sensor for RevLock) $40
Fromeco Arizona Heli Regulator and Peerless 4800mAh LiIon RX pack $145

The options come to $260 so you're still within your $2500 budget.

You could spend a little extra on the motor and get a TRM modified motor and that would probably bring you to your $2500.

Wow, that is very, very reasonable. Hell, cheaper than a 90 setup, and it pays for itself in no time. Thanks for the info guys, expect to see me with a gasser by the end of this flying season.

Also consider the Bergen Intrepid Gasser. http://bergenrc.com/ The standard length bird is $1500 including G26 engine. V-Blades are $115 for 720 mm. Gyro, servos, and receiver would come to under $600. That's about $2200 for everything that you need to get it off the ground. There are some upgrades you can get from Bergen, such as the Canfield Balancer, Pull-Pull Tail, Constant Drive Tail, and Main Shaft Thrust Bearing Block. But, none of these are necessary for flying the bird.

I agree that the RevLock and Stator Gator are very nice to have. Personally I would get those right off the bat. If you want to save a little money on the gyro, consider a CSM 720. They seem to work well with the gassers.

I agree on the CSM 720 and i use one myself.
It will cost you around $220 plus you'll need to buy a separate tail servo, which are around $140 i think.

I originally suggested the 611 because you said you'd be getting the Futaba Radio and servos so i stuck with the futaba theme.

Either Gyro is an excellent choice.

Since no one around me flys that gyro, how hard is it to program, and get working with a 9c?

That is the main reason I wanted mostly futaba electrics, is because everyone around here only flys futaba for heli's, and that is all I have ever flown.

In that case, stay with the futaba. They are an excellent gyro.
