Today i was tuning my Stratus. Was testing the climb out all that. But got one time i did a hard landing. But didnt notice anything weird. But when i was on my way home, i notice the skids become softer. At first i thought it was the fuel that make it soft.

But when i reach home and check it, i notice i just crack one side of my skids.

Any tips on repairing the skids ? i got it yesterday and today it has crack :arggg: :arggg:

Do MA carry spairs for the skids ? or they only sell in a set ?

A bit of Epoxi and Carbon rowings schould be enough...

are you talking about Metal Epoxy ( JB weld ) or the Epoxy glue ( the clear glue ) ?

and do you have pictures of how the 'carbon rowings' look like ? i never hear or see before.

Thank you so much for the fast reply ! :noteworthy

Hi

I supose The clear epoxi will look better than Grey JB weld on the skids :)

Carbon rovings are sort of carbon "hair"... It the natural look of carbon...

Put a first coat of epoxi on the part that is broken, then put rovings around the part that cracked like a bandage ( you can glue the 2 ends with CA so it wont move), Now that you done that, just put Hot Epoxi on the rest to fully cover the rovings (wen epoxi is hot, it just becomes as liquid as medium CA) so it will go thru the rovings...

Now it's rock/hardlanding solid ;)

hmm then how do i get HOT epoxy ? and where can i get that carbon roving ? i dont think Singapore sells them.

Sure you'll find that there, just check your hobby store...

Well a firelighter will do the job to get your epoxi hot... I use a Hot air gun (its quick and clean)....
But CA will do the Job to! But dunno how it reacts with fuel and stuff...

Or buy a new skid... :)

Sookainian,

You have no fear flying your Stratus with no canopy. Or should i say your 'Tadpole'.

:) :) :) :) :)

All that fancy 30% Nitro plays havoc with your gyro tape!! Before long you will be glitching out of control...

When i was waiting for my canopy to be finished i flew without my canopy and i was advised not to by some of the top guys in the UK.. (That was all).

David

All that fancy 30% Nitro plays havoc with your gyro tape!!

What about all the pilots that fly backwards most of the flight? And they have a canopy on the model. Really no more oil residue gets on the tape and such without a canopy than it does with a canopy.

Kenny,
Was there a parts diagram that came with the carbon landing gear kit. There should be individual part numbers in the drawing.

David - I guess there is an arguement there. ( Not good enough for flying backwards yet).

I just know that the tape does not like the oily residue and drastically reduces the life of it.. My frameset is clean-ish after flying. But not when flown and hovered without the canopy.

Anyway each to their own.

sookainian, if you get some normal ZAP THIN cyano and hold the skid so that the crack is open a little you can let the cyano flow into the crack then quickly push the crack together so that you close it up. This will gluse your strut together nicely.

I recently partially broke my battery tray after a little crash and I did this the joint is as strong as the rest of the tray I have bent it to test.

If you strut is soaked in oil this may present a problem however as I do not know how well the cyano will hold.
