View Full Version : Very proud of myself

I have conqured my fear of wind. I have been so afraid to fly in any type of wind. Today I was at a flyin in Williston (middle of no where northcentral Florida), Florida and the wind picked up a bit. I took a deep breath and said to myself this will be good for you. You can practice your responsiveness to the sticks and not over control (giving too much imput and overdriving the servos) the sticks.

Well, lets just say my Trex is just a still very flyable! I did not crash *knocks on wood* flying in some pretty strong wind. I did my normal patterns and was told by a guy who use to teach people to fly heli's that I am doing a fantastic job and my next step should be doing figure 8's on the sim. Once I can do that, well, try with the machine. This will teach me all the directions of upright flight. When I get in trouble, switch the heli to tail in. Stay in your comfort zone until you recover and then start again. When you can do figure 8's with some comfort. Nose in hover will be a piece of cake.

I am excited!!!!!! A goal, something to look forward to. Plus they want to see me flying without training wheels and doing racetrack and/or figure 8's next year.

WOO me

Nice going Jetgirl!!!

It's nice getting over this first hurdle, huh? I'm glad to see you have a group of flyers encouraging you. I need someone out here to give me a good, swift kick in the butt.

Congrats and keep it up!

Congrats Jetgirl!!!

We were away over the weekend but had hoped today we could get some flying in. But we sit here in the house looking at the trees blowing in the wind. Just can't get the courage to fly with real wind blowing. We have flown with breezes but I'm scared of real wind.
:?

Guess I need to get over it.

We are going to a fun fly in July and I had hoped to be much better by now - but with all the rain and now wind - I don't know. I know I have the sim and I can fly there, but it doesn't compare with real fly time.
:fly

Maybe we need that swift kick also!!!

I know the feeling. I really believe that heli flying is like getting over a number of "phobias" and then you are "cured" or flying.

Gusty winds still scare me a bit but steady wind is cool. My current phobia is nose in. I can do it all day on the sim but at the field * I suck! *
I was starting late last summer and dumped it and havent been able to turn it around and hold it since. Its really getting to me as I've promised myself no aerobatics or autos till I can do it. Its just a matter of turning it around and flying it.

Just keep at it, fly at your OWN speed and most of all enjoy yourself.

Jetgirl,

Good job on the flyin'. Hopefully i will be starting to do some 8's here as well. words of wisdom...... you are doing well enough to ditch those training wheels. they ARE holding you back. I was merely hovering when the local folks at the flying field "ripped" them off my rex. the helicopter responds to your stick inputs more rapidly.... but in a good way. the gear is acting like a pengilum down there, causing your bird to take longer to respond to your input. it doesn't seem like much weight, but i noticed a difference immediately. it also does some funny thing to your brain, making you pick the bird up a little faster, and put it down a little softer. i had no troubles..... and i was only just hovering.... DITCH 'EM!! your ready, and it will help you, i promise.

keep up the good work, and good luck w/ the 8's. post up and let us know how flying goes w/ out the gear.
