Hi all

I'm looking at getting into nitro helis after my trex.
I'm not too sure on the recommended electronics required for nitros.
I'm into basic aerobatics on my trex such as flips, loops, rolls, inverted hovering.

Kit: Hirobo Shuttle Plus
Servos: 4 x futaba s3003 servos
Engine: OS 37sz-h
Gyro: 401 & 9254
TX: Futaba 9C
RX: Hitec Electron 6

Pls advise if:
1) This setup looks ok?
2) If not what changes should I make.
3) What to lookout for (bugs) in the shuttle plus.

I'm not looking at the best electronics, but it must be able to meet my flying demands.

Thanks,
alvin

spend a little more money and get an evo 30 instead. The shuttle was a great heli in its day but is an outdated design. An evo 30 can be later upgraded to a 50 very easily later on also.

on the servos you have selected they will be good for light aerobatics only someting like a 9202 would be a better choice. Good gyro and tail servo choice. Get a 7+ channel reciever so you can add on things like a govenor, voltage monitor ect. if needed or desired.

Thanks Jon,

How about S3050 for servos? They're digital & rated 6.5kg/0.16 vs the analog 9202 (5kg/0.22).

Also found the hitec HS-5645MG, digital, 10.2kg/0.23.

The 3050's and hitec are much cheaper also.

You might do a search on the Electron 6, too. I've heard of some fliers having range issues with it, though I haven't experienced that myself. I'd also suggest looking at the evo .30 if you can afford it. And definately go with a better servo than the 3003...the OS is an excellent choice.

i have a 32class OS engine under my bed for long time.
i am planning to buy either shuttle plus or evo. 30. to learn stall turn, roll, and inverted flying, etc. What would you guys advise me? thx in advance.

Definately get the Evo 30 because it can be upgraded to a 50.

Having both a Shuttle and an EVO, I can easily say that the Shuttle can fly just as good as the EVO.

My personal opinion is to get whatever you find cheaper.

PS, the 50 drinks a lot of fuel so its not worth it unless you fly 3D.

I am also just started with flying heli with Shuttle Plus 32SX engine, futaba 240 with futaba 3003 servos on rudder, pitch and aileron, and sanwa 102 on elevator and thorttle. Everything is as stock nothing upgraded.

As a totally new heli flier (but have about 5 years of flying pattern, sport, warbirds and bi-plane), I must admit that Shuttle is an excellent heli to start with as its so stable and predictable as opposed to my initial fear of flying the heli. I managed to hover it on my own but wiht the training skid on the VERY FIRST attempt!!!. I started on May 28, 2006 and up till today, I ve done a total of 22 tanks flying it. I took off the traning skid on my 15th tank and have been flying or accurately put in the hovering mode successfully without any single damage to the heli.

I may need to change to metal swash plate as the plastic unit start to slop/wobble a bit as its bushing is not that durable/may be it is intended to be that way by hirobo to soften any harsh input on the swash plate.

One gallon of cool power 15% heli can last for 15 full tanks of flight. I also add the header tank as the main tank is not viewable from outside/tailside to act as fuel gauge as well as to ensure flow consistency in the fuel line to the carburator.

A friend of mine fitted an OS37 to his Shuttle and he had to grind of some of the frames to make room for it.

Also, there is a Shuttle Plus×2 out now that has what looks like the Sceadu tail which is much better than the original Shuttle Plus's. Otherwise I'm with the others suggesting going with the EVO 30 instead.

Ya right the shuttle plus 2 is the latest with a sceadu tail! May be hirobo want to phase out the shuttle series and upgraded it or rebranding it under the new sceadu brand as the shuttle sceadu 30. Is the sceadu 30 really just as wonderful machine? What are the other rotor machines out there that would be better than hirobo heli?

Sorry, the Shuttle Sceadu is already taken. That was the first generation Sceadu (before the EVO that is). All the Sceadus are "Shuttle Sceadus"!

I just got my original stock swash plate with bushing in it with a new metal swash plate and my immediate reaction to it is how smooth the shuttle flies as compared to before. The heli does not produce any tendency to sway right left or forward and backward... in fact i can literally take my hands off it for 2 seconds the heli just hanging up there.

Besides that I also changed the stock stabiliser paddle with sceadu paddle (heavy one) and the heli now has given a tremendous level of confident of flying it high. Before this I just flew a few feets from the ground and today I flew it almost 15 - 20 ft high and my friends say I ve improved my hovering skill quite fast, where in fact I always believe that in flying heli, one needs 90% of perfect setup and the remaining 10% is pilot capability. With a perfect heli setup, learning can be very fun and progress can be made much much faster too when you are confident with the heli movement....
