I've been spending a great deal of time over at RR over the past years. Time to move on.

I own and operate AZ ChopperCam in Mesa, AZ. I do AP/AV professionally. Most of my video work is for TV commercials.

there's lots of videos of our work on my site

www.azchoppercam.com

I'll be posting some stuff up soon of my latest endeavor, RaptorCam, the most inexensive solution for reliable and super smooth video.

Dj, nice to see you here. Been following your raptor cam rig on the "other side" and I must say you inspired me. I Just purchased a raptor 50 airframe to start my own project.
I better print that info before it gets trashed.

Let me see you were told about the "policy" and that you couldn't mention anything about even remotely attaching money to the mount you designed. :D

This place is much more like the "bar" than the "club"...:D :D :D

As soon as MR figures it out all his threads will be deleted "for the good of the community" because that "is anarchy" and MR does not tolerate that.

Welcome DJ! We are very glad to have you over here. You seem like a great resource to the AP community, and we are glad you are settling here. Thank you.

thanks fellas (and you too Whirly-Girl)

HF is my new home. Rest assured I will be posting up the same useful info and photos/videos here that I did for so long on RR.

To hell with RR. I hope he does delete all my stuff. There's good stuff that I posted on RR and why should he keep it there and capitalize on it??!! I ought to edit all my posts and remove it myself come to think of it.

Did you guys realize that if you try to type the word "helifreak" in a PM to another RR member it censors the word?! whats that all about??!!

To those of you here on HF who may not know me I want to extend friendly greetings to you. I am excited about moving to this forum and I KNOW there are great things in store here in the AP forum on HF!

Let's show the rest of the community and rc AP industry how a public forum SHOULD be run!

:D

Oh... it is along story. We would probably have to crack open a few beers and talk about the last few years. Let's just say, "Mr. Ryder is concerned".

may work in a PM. Just a thought ;)

Here is the easiest way to type http://www.helifreak.com at RR and get past the word censor.

Or, you could just use http://www.tinyurl.com

Cool vid. (http://www.azchoppercam.com/portfolio/video/raptorcam_v3_320.wmv)

I just noticed at exactly 3:00 into it you can see a halo around the heli's shadow. This is something we see frequently whan hang gliding, but I've never seen it on video. Very cool to see it from an R/C AP rig. Incidentally, we call it a "glory" (don't know why). Also don't quite know what causes it. Have you seen it frequently in your vids? Do you know what causes it?

AZ ChopperCam

yep... you spotted a Glory. I have only seen it with my nitro powered heli rig. I suspect it is the thin film of exhaust smoke in the air that causes the light effect.

a larger version of that video (640x480) and a better shot of the glory here

Ahhhh - excellent reference. That together with some optics from my past makes it pretty clear. There doesn't need to be any exhaust or anything in the air in the vicinity of the craft (we see these frequently from our hang gliders). There just has to be droplets at the "target" (e.g. cloud or ground). In this case I suspect you made this flight in the morning with dew on the ground - or after a rain (am I right?).

The droplets act as retro-reflectors. Like the dots on the road, they reflect light back in exactly the direction from which it came (they actually make some retroreflectors with little micro-dots). So in the case of the sun only the area immediately around your shadow will be directed back at you (you are in the direct line between the sun and the point on the ground where your shadow lies). So that's where you see a bright spot. You can see exactly the same thing by pointing a flashlight at a piece of retro-reflective tape while moving the flashlight near your head and away. The tape appears much brighter when your head is right next to the flashlight.

Not earth shattering - but thanks for helping to solve that mystery. Now I can sleep easy.
