View Full Version : I have no idea what I'm doing
I have a raptor 50 with 9252's on cyclic and a gy401 with a 9254 on the tail. I am looking into a new battery system for the setup that will give me more flights and not fry my servos with 6v. I am currently researching each possible solution including larger capacity nicads and a li-ion regulator setup. There are a million different combinations and I don't know where to start :arggg: And do you have to charge the duralites with their charger? What do you guys suggest?

Here's a good Duralite setup, and since you are flying nitro I'll add a couple optional items;
1 - #7404 - 4000 mah 4 cell 7.4 volt pack (RX)
1 - #65053-HD - Regulator w/heavy duty switch- 7.5 amp, 5.3 volt
1 - #21070 - Charger 4@7.4 volt output w/DC Cable only *option*
1 - #21915 - A/C Adapter 2200 mah
1 - #45051 - Glow & Test *option*
This outfit will serve you well, the charger is for 4 reciever packs, you can switch to the 3+1 and add a transmitter battery.
You do want to use the Duralite charger with their batteries, just for simplicity.
Yeah, it's pricey, but it's worth it.
You can expect 10+ flights between charges too.

What Wayne said.
The answer to the charger question is you dont "have" to use it but its designed to work with thier built in balancer circuit thats on the pack and their excellent warranty is void if you use another charger. They gave me 1/2 credit on a 2 year old pack that was a year out of warranty so I would say its worth sticking with their charger.

Duralite Battery Warranty.
Warranty
NOTE: All batteries are considered perishable items and therefore have a shelf life. The life cycle of a battery starts at the date of manufacture.
DURALITE PLUSTM Li-ion Batteries - 2 Year Pro-Rated
Performance RC Products Inc. (seller) warrants its DURALITE PLUSTM batteries & Regulators to be free of defects in material and workmanship. This warranty is effective for 24 months from date of purchase. If within the warranty period the customer is not satisfied with the products performance resulting from a manufacturing defect, the battery or accessory will be replaced or repaired based on the following pro-rated formula:

Free Repair or Replacement
5th - 12th mth:

Actually, it was about a month and a half over 2 years and they still took great care of me and sent me 2 1/2 off certificates for prizes for my fun fly and a pack of 10 percent off coupons.
Thanks guys! This option is on the top of my list now. If its worth the extra $$$ I don't mind shelling it out. :D

I will tell you why I run Duralites, I AM LAZY!!!
Nothing... I mean NOTHING beats going to the field, flying ALL DAY, not worrying about battery life (although I still always do a 1 amp load pre-flight). Then coming home and throwing all (3) helicopters and the radio on one charger and not worry about it again.
To me... that makes it all worth it! :glasses2:
I'm definitely going to go for this setup. Thanks for the info!
