View Full Version : 401 GYRO & AVCS
Well hear is the problem, in my 9CHP instruction manual it says that it's dangerous to take off in AVCS mode, my switch on my TX is set to normal, but I have to switch all the way to idle 3 to get the light to turn off on the 401 gyro, in the finless video's he says not to switch to idle up until your stick is at mid throttle, so my question is how do I get the gyro in non heading hold "light out" with my switch on my TX set to it's normal position no idle up or should I try to take off in idle up 3?

Assign a different switch in the sub menu for the gyro. Many use the left rear top switch.
I don't have a manual or Tx in front of me, but someone will talk you through it.
You should take off in AVCS mode, or at least you can without incident BTW.

Futaba makes great radios but I doubt whomever translates their manuals actually flys helis.
You can feel free to leave it in HH to take off.

in my 9CHP instruction manual it says that it's dangerous to take off in AVCS mode,
What page of the manual does it say the above? I have read page 95 and 96 about the setting up of gyros and I did not set that mentioned. I was reading in the 9C manual that is online at the Futaba website.
http://www.futaba-rc.com/manuals/9c-super-series-manual.pdf
Also have read the GY401 instructions and have not seen the above statement.

At least fix the fact that it goes into normal (non HH)in Idle up. That is the last thing you want.

Yes it does say to take off with the gyro in Normal mode. Only thing is that page 65 is in the airplane section and it is referring to the GYA series of gyros. The GYA 350, 351, 352 are used on airplanes. Hence the letters GYA. If you notice the page title is GYA gyro mixing. I can understand not wanting to do a take off with a plane and the gyro in AVCS mode.
Everyone I know that uses the GY series gyros leave them in AVCS mode all time. Mine is in AVCS mode all the time. The GY series is for helicopters. You can read how to set the GY series of gyros up on page 95 in the helicopter section in the 9C Super manual.
