Does anyone here know what the dimensions of the main shaft? In particular the thickness of the shaft? I guessing that its 8mm thick, but I couldn't find it in the manual.

8 mm, L=151

While we're on the subject, what about the hollow vs. solid steel shaft? The hollow is stronger I suppose? $2.50 more a piece at readyheli so I'm just curious if it's worth the extra dough.

The hollow shaft is lighter. Less weight is what you pay.

...and stronger! A tube is (if correctly dimensioned) alwas stronger than a massive shaft...

That's not what she said.

That a tube is stronger than an identical shaft of the same material is often quoted but not true AFAIK. If you can explain the physics as to why it would be so I would be interested to learn.

The hollow shafts are lighter and have to be bored out. More machining = more cost = higher price.

Hollow tubes of same size being stronger than solid is the most common misconception in mechanics.
If the diameter is the same a solid tube of same material is always stronger than an hollow one.

True is that if with the same amount of material as a solid shaft one would build a larger shaft hollow inside than it would be stronger.

You are absolutely right about higher prices on hollow shafts as they are bored one by one on the cnc machine.

What is the weight difference between the hollow and solid shafts?

it has to be 1/3 or more "less weight" than the solid. Every little bit adds up!

MSH51004 hollow shaft (2pcs+screw+washer+plastic bag) = 62g
MSH51080 solid shaft (2pcs+screw+washer+plastic bag) = 119g

So the hollow shaft is 30g an the solid is 58g.
