I will apologies for the silliness of the question but i cant find any reference to it on the web.

right, I have 2 left rotation helis both varios a sky fox and a extreme 3d one with an OS 61 engine and one with a nova rossi.

I'm just learning to fly with a trex 450xl and a Ark x-400 had them 3 weeks or so.

Now its a long long long way off but when i start the varios does the starter have to rotate the opposite way to a right hand rotation helicopter, or in other words do i start it backwards :? and will it do any damage if tried the wrong way?

I've heard much sillier questions than that one.

The starter will turn the same direction as for any other heli. The reason for the opposite rotor rotation on the Vario is because the engine is facing downward as oppose to upward on most american or asian machines with clockwise rotation.

^what he said, i have a kobold, and use the same starter as on my rappy. its pretty wierd starting from the bottom.

Either what the previous posters said or your mechanics have one extra middle axle in the gearbox between the engine and the rotor axle. This with the engine facing upwards will give you a CCW rotating rotor too. At least a Graupner/Heim mechanic I have looked at was like this.

Thanks, the sky fox starts from below and the extreme starts from the top. Theye are bit to nice/expensive to smash up so it will be a while before I fly or attempt to fly them.
