Hi All,

After looking at Jetgirl's post about forward flight, I started looking at what I was doing in my evening flights. I noticed I had a bad habit of doing figure eights in same direction everytime. So I changed things up. Probably a bad choice of days, it was real gusty. For some reason I am less comfortable with left turns, near me. The result was a sudden, wind assisted, dip into the ground.

Stripped the main gear, talk about a horrible sound. Oh well, it's gonna rain for the next two days anyway

Cheers,
Leslie

Sorry to hear about the "wankering".

Good on you for trying to work on a weak area instead of just doing what is comfy. When I get a new student on the buddy cord (planks), I always, always preach about doing everything both directions...left hand patterns AND right hand patterns...roll to the right, roll to the left!

There were some guys down in OK that I flew with one summer that would cross the runway just to land their airplane if the wind shifted 180 degrees. They could only land left to right. Needless to say, I didn't feel comfortable having my aircraft up at the same as them!

Get that repair done and get back in the air!!! It looks like I've got some work to do on mine as well tonight...rudder servo is "sticking". :dontknow

Hi WhirleyGirl,

Thanks for the encouragement, sometimes it's hard to realize you are in a rut

Servo sticking? the servo itself? I found that dang little guide on the bottom of the horizontal fin can be a source of problems (sticking). Just a thought.

Cheers,
Leslie

Wankering.........indeed!!!

I have to get over that comfort zone and try more things too. And I know what you mean about the sound of the main gear going...........I've done that once too......turned throttle hold back off while I still had Idle Up on.........don't ever do that!! My mechanic laughed, replaced the gear and we went on.

Interesting Leslie as I find that left turns are easier, in fact I can struggle with right turns sometimes. Sorry about the wanker but don’t let it get you down nor slow you down.

Well Leslie...

I wonder if it is Wanker week? I just had my first Trex Crash while trying to learn side in Hovering. Made a slight miscalcuation and went in in Idle up. Hit the Throttle Hold real quick but still took out a few things. :bomb:

Pro 325 blades
Main shaft
Main Gear
Feathering shaft
Flybar
1 Main blade grip
1 Mixing arm
Tail Boom
Plastic Tail housing (kjfly says I can buy the metal Tail assy now) nice of her Huh!!
:smokin:

I guess I have just been lucky or maybe too causious. but first major crash in about 20 flights. I have everything to fix it but the new tail assy. She says I can fly hers until I get mine fixed. Says I can fly 1 battery to her 3..

Hi TJ,

I prefer to think of the whole crash thing as a necessary evil. If you never crash, then you are not pushing your envelope. I've been flying for a couple months with no scratches. Now I'm trying backward flight and mixing up the things that were too comfortable.

Somehow this equates to progress, expensive, but progress

Leslie
