I purchases this heli "new" from a friend who tippe dit over once and said "Funk it"
I can seem to get the heli to lift off the ground much. The highest I've had is chest high adn it wouldnt go any higher. I've long since lost that setting. I've tried Normal and 3D modes. The pitch is adjusting as throttle input is added and everythign looks good but the damn thing never wants to go higher then 4 inches.
I dont care about 3D or a incredibly flying heli at the moment. Just wanna get this thing in the air. I can hover decent for 5 minutes on my old setting on ym 5th try, but cant even get it up high enough to hover now.
Anyone here care to shed some light on my problem?

What version of the Trex is it? What motor? What radio do you have?
Do you have a pitch guage and can measure the pitch? If not your going to need one. What are your pitch and throttle curves for normal?
Have you seen my setup videos here:

I think they will help you a lot.

Its not a Rex. It's a Venom Air Corps Night Ranger 3D. It is a cheaper micro heli I'm using to learn on.
I have been watching your videos but still cant get much response fro my heli.

first, get out your pitch guage. set your tx in normal mode, at center stick. you should have 0-2 of pitch. if not try to turn the nob on the right side of your radio DOWN. sounds funny but down is more pitch. if this gets you where you need to be, your good. if not, you will have to make the links from the servos to the swash longer. just pop 'em of and unscrew a few turns. then adjust your pitch nob. it's a pretty easy process. i had to set mine up again after puttin' on an alum head and swash. if that don't help, let me know and we'll do some troubleshootin' on it.

helirook, where did you get upgrade parts for this thing? I just got one to fly around the office... How about carbon blades?

The throttle trim works at both the top and bottom of the stick range. Make sure that the trim is up.
Also, the main motor may be fried from your friend's tip over (if it stayed powered up stalled any length of time.
These little things fly quite well when adjusted properly, but the TX set-up is unusual as helirook pointed out.
CF blades improve things, but don't go there if this is your first machine. The brushless upgrade helps a great deal also.

to go brushless I imagine you'd have to scrap the 4 in 1 controller and go with a standard receiver and brushless speed controller. Is there an easier way?
I have both a trex 450 and a 600, this one is just for screwing around with cause it's so damn cute... :)

You do not have to change the 4-in-1 on ghe VNR3D. You plug the brushless ESC into the 4-in-1 on the throttle channel and it works. No need to replace the onboard electronics.
It is truly plug-and-play.

Cool. What motor and speedo would you recommend?

I used the Venom motor and speed control. I understand that they have a new speed control that does not have a "Hard" cut-off. I may upgrade to that.
If you download the instructions from the website, they explain how to conect the speed control.
It was much harder stuffing the ESC and all the wiring inside the canopy than it was to connect it. Also, you may need to open up the frame with a small file or dremel tool where the boss for the motor bearing goes in.
