after I buy 5 or 6 10s2P packs I may be eating that recipe for a while!
I installed the Hacker A50-12S into the Raptor last night. Now I need to figure out how this damn lipo balancer works.

you have single 10s 2p packs ? with two balancer connectors hanging out ? . Yah thats a tricky one, do some research in the batt forum of rc groups on what to do there. Theres a huge thread on the 1010 and 210V. Biggest packs I have are 5s so im no help.

Actually, if you have a single 10s2p Pro Lite pack, it will have two 6-pin connectors coming out of the pack. Both of these can plug into one end of the balancer.
If you want to save some money, you can run this same motor on a 12s eMoli setup (two 6-cell "six packs". You'll only get about 7-8 minutes, but for the price of a single 10s2p-4200 pack, you can do about 3 sets of 12s eMolis. In addition to not having to worry about running them down too far, you can recharge them at a 3C rate. With 3 sets, you can go pretty much continuous.

thanks for the advice Gary. For now I bought just one 10s2p 4200 to play with and test. If I like this machine (and I am sure I will) I will look into some battery options.
just finished mounting up the esc a bit ago. I see alot of folks just velcro'ing the esc to the frames and I'm sure that is perfectly fine, but I need a bit more of a finished look to I made this mounting plate from G10 and carefully drilled and tapped some 3mm holes in the heat sink fins and mounted it to the plate with some spacers.
I then drilled some holes on the plate and wraped a zip tie through and around the wires to act as wire strain relief.

DJ, looking good. I would give it a 2nd thought to mount the ESC to the frame hardmounted like that. I think it will be getting some extra vibes that it probably does not need. Maybe some doublesided tape between the ESC and mounting plate then snug up the bolts.
Just a thought, I always build my stuff to last a lifetime with minimal wear because I swear the jokers will go 5000 flights with no maintenance if you do.
Cant wait to see some video from this!

I've got a bunch of extra small neoprene isolators that I may try if it looks/feels like it's getting "vibed" too much.

I think it will be fine. We hard-mount these things all the time. I usually stick them to the inside of the lower fan shroud area, just in front of the motor.

DJ,
What is the zip tied wire going down your boom in that picture?

that's the servo wire going to the tail rotor servo. I ran the wire through some expandable PET sleeving. makes for clean installation and keeps the risk of wire chafing to a minimum.

got my flight pack in today. just need to finish some wiring put on the main blades and she's ready! A good chance at a test flight tomorrow.
Going to test fly a little bit without my camera mount first. Once I make sure all the electronics work I'll mount up the gimbal and put this ***** to work!
I tell ya what though.... charging a 10s2P freakin makes me nervous. there's ALOT of energy packed into such a small object. Some potential for mass destruction if things went bad. The largest pack I have ever charged up until now was a 4s1p. ha! massive life change going on over here

figured what the hell... still had about an hour of daylight left and the machine was finished.
did a hover test flight in the back yard. SMOOOOTH and so much quieter than my nitro!
it's got some major tweaking to have done but the maiden flight went well!

DJ,
For a little piece-of-mind get yourself 2 builders cinderblocks and one 8" x 16" paver. Stack the 2 blocks, place the battery inside and then cover with the paver.
It's a poor mans battery-bunker for large batts, It will contain the fire enough to not burn everything else around it.

Sweet. So what blades are you sporting right now? I saw you're looking for some semi 680's, are you just running your sym 680's?

Something looks different than your normal in flight picts. Let's see hmm, oh yeah, no extra boom to route exhaust away!
Is that your flight pack up front?
Do you have the carbon fiber bottom frame plate?
If you do, then I think your pack will fit underneath, and you can strap your pack to it lengthwise and have a finer CG adjustment.

actualy the flight back is there temporarily while I have no camera mount up front. with the mount the pack will sluip in between the frames at the rear.
and yes! no smoke!

I'm guessing it is a bad motor. I believe he is taking it by Hacker this afternoon. They will give him a new one to try.

Yes. Hacker is only about a 15 minute drive from my house :D :D
