You know how sometimes after lots of slow progress your brain kinda clicks and suddenly what was difficult becomes normal?
Well, I've had about 10 hours of self taught on my Twister (Blade CP) and over the last week I had been increasingly trying a couple of short left and right passes with tail only turns at either end. Today (Sunday) I took the wife and kids to a forest park (Savernake near Malborough) for a picnic lunch and took my bird along. There was loads of room in a clearing surrounded by nice 'wind deadening' trees. I've been happy for the last 4 or 5 hours of flying to hover and maintain control at upto 10 feet or so altitude. So, when I took my Twister up, after some initial tail -in hovering to get 'in mode' I started the left and right passes with rudder turns, but this time much higher up than usual, like 6-8 feet, also the length of each pass greatly increased, so I was doing proper ff. Suddenly I found that with the heli constantly travelling my old plank flying instincts took over and I could easily do the correct left/right input bit as she come towards me and passed by. I felt for the first time when she's on the move that I had more control than the heli did. In all my excitement I almost clipped some trees and at one point, at the end of a long climbing pass she balloned up as her forward speed dropped in the turn and practically disappeared up underneath the spreading canopy of a large tree  - fortunately she completed the 'about face' and came swooping down from under the branches like some bird of prey - what a rush!! First thing I'm gonna do now is buy two more lipo packs to get maximum benefit of the current good weather and my new found ability - Yeah :D Thought  I could start carefully slowing her down as she approaches and keep her up high eventually leading to the terrifying 'nose-in' hover - now, beating that bogey man would be a real plus

YESSSSSSS! You gotta love it. That is the exact rush I was talking about last week! Good for you!

Awesome!
I've had a 'mental block' with nose in for years.. I KNOW I can, but never enjoyed it. Today I burned a 1/2 gallon on a 30 just on nose in. The comfort level is rapidly getting there, I even got two tanks through nose in on the Stratus.
There is absolutely no replacement for stick time.

Excellent. I don't even try the nose in stuff much yet. I'm hoping it comes naturally after a bunch of FF.
