Running the plastic gear now, just curious how tight you guys are running the gear against the pinion? Have already stripped the HELL out of Delrin gear, so don't want to be too loose. Have heard it needs to be pressed all the way in on the pinion, but don't want to reduce flight time.
Thanks!

cut a piece of regular printer paper and set it between the gear and the pinion and push the motor forward until the pinion seats into the gear, this should give you the correct mesh, then just spin the motor to run the paper out, after a while you get used to the feel and won't need the paper anymore. I use 22# printer paper in the office so that's what I use to set the mesh

I'm familiar with that method...but have heard of peoples gears stripping even with that gear mesh. Was thinking it needed to be pressed all the way in.

Thanks James...yes, seen that before. With the plastic gear though, it's not "breaking" in like the Delrin is. And again, was just curious if anyone is running the pinion all the way against the main gear. Thanks.

Pressing it "all the way in" will chew up the gear for sure, the new plastic gears need proper mesh, refer to the link that Jamesppp posted, it is directly from the horses mouth, we've been testing all the gears, the new delrin, the new plastic, and the plastic gears need a a tiny bit of mesh.
I'm beginning to think theres a gremlin with the 550 gearing. I have stripped 3 main gears, two Delrin and today a new plastic. Making me crazy. I'm now going to try a different pinion. I've setup gear mesh for years and never stripped gears like with this bird. Setup tight or with normal spacing, dosen't seem to matter. Nice flying bird, when it's not eating up gears :-)

I use tracing paper. Been doing this when X-Cell heli's hit the market. Works great.

Guys,
If you are having stripping issues give us your setups
Motor
esc
pinion
are you in gov mode if so your settings
throttle curves if so what are they
do you have softstart?
Scorpion 4020-1390
Soft start Align ESC
7mm 12T pinion
Non governor
Normal curve 0-42-71-85-85-85-85
ST-1 85-85-85-85-85-85-85
I'm not switching to idle up till rpm has peaked near mid stick!

try switching to idle up prior to rpm fully spooled in normal, or initialize esc with throttle hold on(set for negative % hold), then take off throttle hold already in st-1.
I popped my derlin gear yesterday. I was doing mild FF in normal mode and switched to ST-1 and blew 4-6 teeth POP
