Peoria Illinois? Man, I would just buy a better heli, rather than sink a bunch of $ in the Axe CP, and still only have a mediocre flying micro bird. Thats just me (and many others). Fly the CP for what it is, then upgrade to a better bird, its the smartest move. You will agree and thank me in the long run.

OK, sorry. I just don't understand that I guess. I would just buy another lipo for my better heli with that money, if it were me. Good luck, and post a vid of your project if you go through with it!

I too have been 'hooked' by the Axe CP... and I would suggest many others over that one, now. I even sunk in the money for the Alternative gyro setup just as the manual suggest. Not much improvement when I did that...Tail did stop 'pulsing' though.

There is a huge thread on rcgroups.com (http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=610525&highlight=t+450+head ), all about the Axe CP. This will get you started on some belt tail conversion info:

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?p=11585466&highlight=belt+tail#post11585466

http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?p=10860386&highlight=belt+tail#post10860386

These are just a few links from 1 of the 18 pages of results I found real quickly. Go to the beginning of that thread and search for "belt tail", and you will see what I mean.

Also, Tower Hobbies has a torque tube kit listed, that supposed to arrive anytime, to convert the Axe. That may be better overall, and cheaper, if you can wait. Here is a link:

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXUUK8&P=7

I didn't find any info in a quick search, about using a t450 head (not sure what head that is, exactly). But, there are tons of guys on that thread that have CNC heads on their CP's, and some info about them.

Just search that thread ( http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=610525&highlight=t+450+head ), and you will find info about anything you might possibly want to do to that Axe. Most guys don't like to drop the amount of coin it takes to have CNC and belt tails on that heli, though. ;)

Hope this helps...

heres the 450 next to it. i plan on putting the 450 motor in it. already drilled out the gear to fit it on the 450 shaft. i have a feeling its goin to be fun. i took a axe on realflight and added the 450 motor. alot more fun. but who knows in real life. soon i will i guess.
The drive cog is from cnc helipoter. off the 300. 5 bucks. belt is from 450 xl. shorter then 450 s. the tail back is all align 450 stuff. left over. drilled the cog to fit 6mm. drilled the gear to fit the big shaft of the 450x. drilled the tail holder. added 3mm screws. shortend the boom about 1 1/2 inch. the belt rollars are from blade 400. used the boom clamp from the hor fin to hold the rollers. cut body spacer from 450 in half to have a step for the roller. trimmed the body to fit everything. the tail is a lil long for bird. but ohwell. prototype.

did you use the axe cp rotor head or the trex 450s?

Note to self...never try to fly when:
1. It is getting dark
2. You are in a huge hurry
3. There is an impatient 4 year old boy, watching from the truck
Just when my confidence was high, and having done several successful flights, bam. Stupid noob thumbs crash. I will go through it tonight and make a list of the damage. I am afraid the e-board fried, because after the crash, it jittered around a little. If the cost is too high to repair, this may have been its last flight. :(

But, I guess the timing wasn't too bad, because this one should be done next weekend:

Good news!

Broken:
-Tail blade
-Boom
-Landing Gear Strut
-(1) Blade Grip
-Center Hub
-*May have bent the feathering shaft, gonna order one just in case

Had on hand:
-Tail Blade
-Original Aluminum Boom
-Leftover Trex450 landing gear (fits perfectly)
-(1) Blade Grip

So, that leaves me short only a center hub! I will order it, along with a few other cheap spares tonight, and it will live to see another day! Yay!

Note worthy parts that survived the significant crash:
Blades, flybar, E-board, main shaft and the rest of the head.
This crash was way cheaper than the first one!

If you don't want to do it yourself, Freestyle Hobby sells a belt drive tail kit for the Axe, here:

If you look at page something like 446 or there about I did a belt drive tail for my AXE. I used a HBKII tail complete from tail boom and complete tail. I also used the HBKII guide pulleys as well as the drive gear. I did a few home made mode for it. You can order a complete HBKII for around $60.00 from Jaghobbies.com

It does fly better with a belt driven tail compared to the stock setup. I also have a mostly stock AX CPv2. The only mods are Bell hiller and a GY240 gyro with stock 3 in 1.
