I decided to add balancers to my very costy 4s4p 8000Mah packs (2 of them) at 2 am after a moderate amount of beers and managed to cut a small "nick" in the foil coating of a cell. Literally a nick, and I could prise it back and see a white substance beneath that was perfectly in tact and smelt sweet and "chemical". I hastily removed the 4p "bank" of cells and replaced them with spares I had. The 4p pack of cells is now sitting in my steel sink (has been for 48 hours or more) with no event. Still smells mildly.

I'm fairly sure I'll have to bin them now, was just wondering if I'm right. I assume once air gets in the lithium will eventually react with air and go pop. Nothing is happining now, but I'm assuming under load/charge it will be a different story.

It seems obvious, but I'm asking, just in case the outer foil "case" is only a primary layer and there is anotehr protective layer to go?
