View Full Version : 2006 F3C Interpretation
Some notes:
1. As noted in the judges guide, all stall turn pirouettes should be symmetrical, that is, half of the rotation before the stop, and half after the stop. I, personally think it does not look as good this way but that's the rule.
2. On the Flipping Pullback, the maneuver begins with a SMALL 1/4 backwards inside loop, which by definition requires a small altitude loss. It is different that the old Stall with Pullback Recovery which did not require an altitude loss.
3. All hovering maneuvers in "A" schedule go to 5m AEL while only the vertical circle in "B" goes that high. The other two go to 4m AEL.
4. In the Figure M, the model is required to go only one model length after the 1/4 roll, so therefore the rolls need not necessarily be centered but need to be the same on the up and down lines for both legs.

I don't know about you Gordie, but I'm going to get a headache even thinking about the timing on those ST's.

From the F3C judges course that was developed by Jurg Schmitter Swedish F3C judge
1.A5. DOUBLE ROLLING STALL TURN (UU)
1 10 meter minimum straight and level entry 0.5
2 ¼ loop and ascent 0.5
3 Half roll and ascent 1.5
4 Stop und 180deg pirouette 1.0
5 Vertical descent 0.5
6 ½ loop and ascent 1.0
7 Stop and 180deg pirouette 1.0
8 Vertical descent with half roll and ¼ loop 1.5
9 10 meter minimum straight and level exit 0.5
10 Overall impression 2.0
Notice it says stop and 180 deg pirouette for the stall turn.
2.Reasons for downgrading
1. Straight and level entry or exit less than 10m long.
2. Inverted position during 360°travelling flip not centered
3. ¼ loops not equal in size
4. Ascent and descent not vertical
5. Small ¼ loops not at same altitude
A7. FLIPPING PULLBACK (UU)
2.0 Overall impression 8
0.5 10 meter minimum straight and level exit 7
1.0 Vertical descent with ¼ loop 6
1.0 Small backward ¼ inside loop to vertical 5
3.0 3600 backward travelling pushed flip 4
1.0 Small backward ¼ inside loop to horizontal 3
1.0 ¼ loop after centerline with vertical ascent 2
0.5 10 meter minimum straight and level entry 1
Reasons for downgrading
1. Straight and level entry or exit less than 10m long.
2. Inverted position during 360°travelling flip not centered
3. ¼ loops not equal in size
4. Ascent and descent not vertical
5. Small ¼ loops not at same altitude
3.All of hovering maneuvers in A schedule are 5 meters high above eye level.
In B schedule only the Circle is 5 meters high. The other two are 4 meters high above eye level.
4.Reasons for downgrading
1. Model does not climb vertically
2. Stall turns not 1800
3. 1/4 Rolls not 900
4. Rolls were not at same altitude
5. Model drifted away or toward the judges
6. Stall turns not at same altitude
B5. FIGURE “M” WITH 1800 STALL TURNS (UU)
2.0 Overall impression 9
1.0 ¼ inside loop followed by 10m minimum straight and level exit 8
1.0 Descent with ¼ roll 7
1.0 Additional ascent followed by 1800 stall turn 6
1.5 ½ inside loop with with following ¼ roll 5
1.0 Descent with ¼ roll 4
1.0 Additional ascent followed by 1800 stall turn 3
1.0 ¼ inside loop with following ¼ roll 2
0.5 10 m staright and level entry 1
All of the above is from the F3C judges course posted on the AMA website.

David,
I read that too and was interpreting it as stop, THEN turn but
5E.6.8 "STALL TURNS" in ANNEX 5E "F3C JUDGES' GUIDE"
of VOLUME F3C in Section 4 of the FAI Sporting Code the judges guide says,
5E.6.8. STALL TURNS
The entry/exit lines must be horizontal and the ascending/descending lines must be vertical (parallel).
The pirouettes must be symmetrical by performing half of the rotation before and after the complete stop.
The pirouette must be around the main rotor shaft. If there is significant horizontal displacement, 1 point
should be subtracted. If the model aircraft shows a pendulum movement after the rotation, it should
result in a downgrade of 1 point. The entry and exit must consist of partial loops with constant and equal
radii. Partial and full rolls must be placed in the middle of the straight lines. The lines must be
recognisable with lengths at least equal to one fuselage length.

Gordie,
Yes I agree. I would think the F3C Judges course needs some refining, or either the description was wrote wrong in the Sporting Code. As a Judge I will use the Sporting Code description. I guess after doing the stall turn the same way for the last 15 years, it was decided it was time for everyone to learn a new way to do it. <G>

Here's the next question............................
With the judging criteria as it now is, shall we modify the ST's in the AMA classes to reflect these changes? I ask this question in the context of the AMA classes being the prep for FAI.
