You don't want to run shielding on your plug wire. It will cause more problems than it solves.

malorie, please correct me if i'm wrong .. i read a topic where chris put rf sheilding that he had to actually borrow or remove from a tv coax cable on the plug wire

If I remember correctly, Chris recommends not adding anything to the plug wire. Just like Malorie says, not needed.

thanks for the correction.. i must have read some old posts that mentioned rf from the plug and wire and chris had robbed the sheilding braid of a tv coax.. just found the site and figured it might be easier than tearing apart a coax :D .. i respect everyones input just as malorie i respect your info just as much as it was coming from chris, i wasnt doubting it i was just trying to clarify my post and the reasoning behind it.. again thanks for the info as this is my first gasser and some of the research i do might be outdated but trying not to leave any stone unturned..again i appreciate everyones help.. thank you very much

Just to help clarify, I did try the coax shielding for a time. Right up until I started having problems getting the thing to start. Removed it and all was well again.

I understand the reasoning behind having the shielding, and in certain instances it may help. But the only time I have had difficulties from the ignition system of the engine, changing the spark plug cured it.

Every Industrial Twin, Observer, Gasser, and Twin Observer I have built and flown has NOT had any type of shielding, and has not, to date, had any type of interference problem from the ignition system.

looks like i went a little too far back in my research..lol.. i guess thats why we have malorie and yourself to set us straight

I only mentioned it because I did extensive testing at one point on wheather shielding the plug wire did any good. Just as Chris found, I found that when the shielding was close enough to the plug cap to do any possible good, it caused the spark to sometimes short-cut the gap in the plug by jumping to the shielding instead. It caused intermittent missing and sometimes even a complete loss of spark to the plug causing a few dead-stick autos. :)

As far as interference goes, I also found it did nothing to prevent any interference. Antenna location was a much better cure. :)

There, your research is all up to date. ;)

I think Shannon Davis came to the same conclusion. He ripped off his shielding at Toms FF.

Same conclusion here.
