Got a question guys :?: .
I am trying to copy a model in my 12Z to the memory card.
I set it up to copy from [INTERNAL] -> [MEM.CARD].
A window pops up that says [SURE? Y:ROTORY-KEY N: OTHER].
Here's the weird part...if I rotate the rotary key, as I
believe it is asking me to do, the window closes. If I push
the button, it shows the copy progress bar, but when it's
finished it says [FAILED! PUSH ANY KEY].
No model file is copied. What am I doing wrong?
Any ideas?

Is the CF card formatted? Can you read from it in model select?

Well...I didn't format the card, but it did work for a system update, and I can read the card in my computer. How is it supposed to be formatted?

Page 51 of the manual explains how to copy to the CF card.

You should just push the rotary dial to complete the copy. Do not rotate the dial.

I may not have been clear in my first post, but I did try just using the "Push" button on the rotory switch after I tried the rotory switch, but all I get is the progress bar (which looks like it is copying the data), and then the [FAILED!] message.
Kinda odd how the prompt seems to conflict with the manual though isn't it?

Any other ideas?

There is other stuff in the manual that is not completely right, at least in the 14 manual. If you could do the update off the card it is formatted.

I have a 14, so unfortunately I don't have any more answers on the 12 and copying a model. Wish I knew more about it, sorry.

I know it creates a folder on the card for models. It labels it "Model" or "Models". See if it is creating this folder on the CF card. Also, the 12Z will only recognize 8 character length model names..

It could be a bad card as well; haven't really seen any read/write errors on any of the radios to say for sure, but if you can try another CF card just to see. As heliroller mentioned, the radio should create the Model folder (among others) if it doesn't exist; verify that it is there and have you actually checked to see if it created the model on the card even with the error?

Well...solved the problem. Heliroller's comment about an 8 character limitation got me thinking. The name of the model was "T-REX/SE". Even though there were only 8 characters, when I changed it to "TREXSE", everything worked fine. Guess the manual forgot to mention that odd characters were not acceptable.
Thanks for your help!

Interesting find Dennis. The 14MZ doesn't allow creating names with / or \ in them (gives a Rename Error), I'm surprised the 12Z tries to. :arggg: Then again, I guess it didn't create it. ;)
