View Full Version : Extreme clutch drag..

Howdy!
I am a little worried about some drag in the clutch of the new extreme I am building.. I have carefully adjusted the distance between the fan and clutch driver, per the first post on this page and am sure this is not the issue..
What I have are two high spots, directly across from each other in the clutch liner.. Together, they comprise about a fourth of the total distance around the inside of the clutch.. I.e. each one is about an eight of the distance.. When I turn the clutch, I get SIGNIGICANT resistance at the outer edge of the two clutch shoes.. When you look from beneath the clutch bell and up into it you can see the liner move in and out with respect to the clutch itself when you turn the bell.. It is if the liner is somewhat oval shaped.. It doesn't matter what position the clutch is in, the bell (liner) always rubs in the same spots..
My questions are: Has anyones seen this before?
If so, will the liner "wear in" on it's own, or should I send it back??

Whew, that's a lot of typing.. Many thanks to all who read and or post..

Jeff,
The liner should be about .010 to .012 larger inside diameter than the outside diameter of the clutch. This will allow .005 to .006 clearance all the way around between the clutch and the liner.

I have seen clutches and liners have tight spots when they are new.
Usually they will be fine after a few flights and turn freely when not engaged.
