I just purchased a new TRex 600 NSP and decided to go all out on the electronics. One of the decisions I made was to get the new JR DS8717HV (HV for High-Voltage) servos as my cyclic servos.

Prior to this I had only flown my Blade 400 3D, so I'm not able to compare them to any other servos that might be used in a 600 size heli, but I did want to let you know what I think about them.

First, I ordered them from Ron's Heliproz South for $189.99 each. They came carefully packaged in sealed plastic boxes with foam padding surrounding the servos.

Their appearance is great. The entire case is made out of aluminum which will serve well to disipate heat. The top is silver and the bottom is red and they look wonderful.

They didn't fit in the pre-cut holes in my TRex, so I had to file the edges about 1mm to make them fit.

When I plugged them in, the first thing I noticed is that there was no noise. They buzz like any other digital servo from time to time, but for the most part, once they're set in a position, they dno't make a lot of noise.

Their top speed to 60 degrees is 0.06 seconds. I haven't timed it, but I know if I move the cyclic up and down as fast as I can on the transmitter, the servos keep up with me. I'm running them on the AR7100-R receiver which is powered by a 2S lipo. It passes the 7.4 volts straight through to the servos, but they can also be run on standard NiCd or NiMh batteries, their performance is just slightly slower if you do.

I would highly recommend these servos to anyone. They were just released by JR, and I haven't even heard of anyone else buying them yet, so there is a little bit of a risk being on the cutting edge, but JR is known for quality products.
