Hi I am a beginer in flying heli.... just wonder, whether you guys whom have been long in flying the machine, have been training on doing new move at a high altitude say 10 ft and above or very low altitude below your own height. Thanks for your advise...

All new maneuvers should be tried at higher altitudes. This gives you more room to recover in the event it doesn't go very well.

10 feet is still very low.
I try all new moves as high as I can still tell which way the heli is going.
Minimum 100 feet.

Thanks guys for your reply and with your input I have improved my hovering height from a mere 2 ft from the ground to more than 15ft today. And I have to admit that flying high has given me even better confident as what you guys said that it gives me a better room for recovering any mistakes. My next target is to hover high at more than 15ft and do a right and left side hovering and after that nose in hovering. Hopefully with that height I have enough time to recover the heli should I lost my coordination!!! Finally to be able to do simple forward and back ward movement too.

For me a solid hover at 150-200 ft is one of the hardest things to do. Look at this video and notice the 3 second pause he does 200 feet in the air.

You asked about the height of new "tricks", then you say you just started hovering. If your just hovering, 10ft would be my ceiling and just take it slow.
When you actually get into "tricks", then take it up high.

Here is the way I look at it. If you have training gear on keep it as low as possible. The training gear are useless above about 3'. Don't be afraid to bolt the training gear back on to learn some new orientaions. Weh you first remove them make sure you stay as high as you are confortable but keep yourself and others out of a 45deg cone to the ground. Don't put the heil up high and close those are a bad combination.
