Sorry for all of the newbe Swift questions but I am trying to get a better grasp of what is needed on the Swift as I am only familiar with the T-Rex in electric Helis. The T-Rex people use the BEC from the ESC to provide onboard power but I see many people using an onboard battery for RX and servo power, why?

Hey,
Personally I prefer to use a seperate Rx. battery in my Swift, reason being if the main power source should fail for any reason atleast I can still control the model all ok.
Also, using BEC's there is the possability for excess interference to creep in. Although having said that, the Medusa BEC units are being used by many people without problems and appear to be the best option should you want to go BEC.
But again for me I prefer seperate pack, but this is personal preference.
I find also with the Swift that the model is a little tail heavy and so a small 1500mah+ Rx. battery up front helps a great deal to balance things out.
There is the thought about saving as much weight as possible, but the Swift copes very well with the extra grams of a Rx. battery well.

I personaly use for personal prefrence, a personal 1500 Flightpower 2s1p and a personal Duralite 5.1 Regulator. I preffer this because you can get many flights and the battery slots nicly under the radio tray at the front with the ESC and switch.

I to run separate RX power source, a 2s Li-Po and Duralite Regulator. Piece of mind and as Adam says, helps with balancing a lot of models.
I'm running a medusa 3.5a, 6v bec.
My thinking there was that a reciever pack is going to weigh 80-100 grams, might as well add another cell to the main pack instead (100 gram per cell emolis, 9 cell packs).
The power is there for really power hungry maneuvers if it's needed and adds flight time as well.
The main battery will have lots of power to run the electronics long after the heli can't even hover anymore, the only reason to use a seperate reciever pack is if your worried about interference or your power system is less than optimal, causing to much amp draw on the main pack.

On the Swift with 6s or less you might want to buy a Jazz 80-6-18. It has a built in 4A BEC, governor and all such stuff.
