WG,
I am so sorry to hear of your crash. I feel for you. I would just die! :D
Buty after reading your post and seeing all the others that have sufered the same fate it has made me rethink some things. Such as getting a back up.

Keep your chin up and Keep Pushin On!

We'll work some more on the disection tonight, but I'm sure I didn't flip into non-HH by accident...I don't keep my fingers that close to the switch and I had the tail blades centered during my first few trimming flights. In fact, I could fly it around nicely in non-HH or HH and you couldn't tell the difference between the modes as a bystander.

The gyro and servo connectors were not loose...not even after the crash. I shrink-wrapped them together over the joint.

The tail drive shaft shouldn't have been the problem either because a friend at the field found that mistake before my first flight. I hadn't drilled nearly far enough of a hole for the screws to catch hold. But, I want to eliminate that for a cause and we'll check it tonight.

I'm leaning towards a 401 failure, but does anyone know more about this issue? Anyone have a link to it being discussed previously? And, if it was a 401 hard-over issue, do they appear to operate normally after the crash? That's what mine is doing now. Sure makes it hard to diagnose.

Thanks Malorie, for the detailed list of metal things to check over and how to do so. I'm so used to plastic pieces just shattering and making it "easy" for me to diagnose.

A back up is not a bad idea...if you can afford it. My back up just happens to be going back to my Raptor 50. Man, this is like getting out of a Cadillac and getting into a sports car. I just have to wait for my electronics to get back from their checkout and then I'll be back in the air my nitro machine getting goop all over my hands again.

Oh well.

Jeanette -

Found a couple articles about the 401 and amp saturation causing piros and then after it checks out fine.

Here is an incident on RR http://www.runryder.com/helicopter/t98388p1/

Jeanette,

What battery system are you using?

I am running a Duralite regulator (5.1V) with a 7.2V 4700mah 4 cell pack made by TBM.

The part that made that day so difficult was that my husband torque rolled a foamie into the pavement, we had a loss of gyro on his T-Rex, we shredded a wheel (no crash) on his Edge during crosswind landings, AND I stuffed my gasser. EVERYTHING we took to the field that day had an issue...mine just happened to be the worse one.

That is so NOT like us to have ANY problems. We're usually out there spending our time helping others get back in the air. I guess all of our "UPS" had to come to an end on the same day. :arggg:

We'll rebound!

EVERYTHING we took to the field that day had an issue

Once when I went hang gliding in the mountains near Fresno, I flew my $800 glider and loaned the $10,000 glider to a friend. I botched a landing, which ran me probably $75. He botched the take-off (MUCH SCARIER), which destroyed the $10K glider. That was all the flying equipment we brought to the field that day.

But you know - half of my days are above average. :D

Don't feel too bad...
On Saturday I put 3 in. :D
2 T-rex's and my ION.

Just remember it is only a short trip to the computer to get things back in order. :D

Ashot in the dark,I broke two sets of servo gears, center spot each time, just one small tooth broke off, each time i just I never noticed and just kept flying,if that small part had of got into the rong spot in the servo i would of cashed a not knone why.you can turn your servo but because the mesh is so fine, its hard to tell if thiers a gear broke, dont know why i broke them.

Tail servo checked out to be good and is flying fine in my Raptor currently.

I'm still waiting to get a package or call from Futaba.

GENERAL COMMENTS:
Your comments have been noted and taken into consideration during the evaluation of your merchandise.

SERVICE TECHNICIAN COMMENTS:
The gyros were replaced at no charge.

So, what does this mean? My letter to them just stated exactly what happened during my flight and how I could not find anything mechanically that induced the hard-piro to the right. I asked specifically in my letter if this gyro could have been from a batch that had "hard-over" conditions occuring.

I expected a little bit more of an explanation. Should I call the service center tomorrow and speak with somebody directly?

I'd just be happy to have the stuff replaced myself..

I just want to know if the gyro was the cause. It would at least put my mind at ease for when I put it back in the air again.

Thanks Mike!

That's the benefit of YEARS of crashing and repairing the Intrepid birds. :arggg:

It's just a shame it took me this long to figure out how to make them run like new after a crash.

Got any binding links anywhere Jeanette? I had one 9252 binding on my Observer that caused my 601 and 401 to reset after a flight or two due to low voltage. I was running a Duralite 4K Ion pack and 5.3V regulator, and only took 20-25 minutes of flying and wham, it would start to piro and I had to auto. Is there any chance of binding. If you take your heli into a very quiet room, (believe it or not I can find one living with a 5YO) and listen very carefully. You can only have one a t a time powered up and hear one that is binding. Move the sticks a little and they shoudl be a lot quieter on center, and see if you hear any servo stress.
