Hi,
I recently purchased a Blade CX and I'm loving it but today i tried to mod the 4-1 to cool better and something went wrong. I carefully took the 4-1 out of the case using the instructions i found at http://www.dacaur.com/heli/bcxhelp/BladeCXAssembly.pdf, and punched some holes into the case and put it back together. Then I placed her on the floor and made sure everything was connected properly and throttled her up a bit, then throttled her down. Right away i began to notice a problem, it started randomly throttling up and down in away that could be described as twiches. It scared the crap out of me so i took a set of plyers and put them ontop of the landing gear to hold it to the ground so I could further investigate. Everything seemed fine and responed properly but about a minute later the servos started twitching, and later the throttle again.

Any ideas on whats going on? I really hope I didn't somehow break the 4-1 :(

Thanks,

James

EDIT: After some futher testing I found out that shaking the transmitter will cause the heli to throttle, I modified the transmitter to not have the ratchets on the throttle about a 3 days ago.

When I purchased my CX (first helicopter), the fellow at the shop recommended this modification. However, I ignored his advice and ran at least a 100 charged packs through my little CX with absolutely no apparent heating problems. I crashed once and didn't pull back on the throttle right away and cooked the FETs in the 4-1 but cooling holes wouldn't have helped that. I do use the motor heat sinks.

So, here's my question. How do you know that the cooling holes are needed? :?:

I don't know but it's recommended by quite a few sites so i figured i'd try, I like hacking things

Anyway thats not really the point, I already did it, now I can't even fly my copter. I'm going out tomorrow to get a new 4-1 unless any of you object with a better idea

Cipher,

Did you ever find the fix for this? Mines doing something that sounds very similar. Doesn't do it all the time, and seems to do it more at the middle to tail end of a battery pack. Will be hovering and flying around just fine, then starts to just have a little split second hiccup in power here and there. I did recently replace the 4 in 1 due to the infamous cooked ESC, and I'm not sure that it did it before (but then, also not sure it didn't). Do have a heat sink, but didn't cut cooling in the canopy or controller yet. Heat would be a good route to investigate, I'm thinking. Since it does seem to be happening more after the thing has warmed up a bit. Just curious what (if anything) ever smoothed it out for you.

I received a CX for Christmas and find that it does the same "twitching" that you describe here. I have cut a cooling hole in the canopy and plan to add the motor heat sink. It is very alarming when the unit hiccups as I'm never sure what will happen afterwards.

Any ideas would be helpful.

everyone
i have a century hummingbird v3 stock that is doing the same thing first the tail would rev up so the heli would kick over almost 90 degrees now the main motor would rev up on its own . ive been told that i fied it using a 3c lipo 11.1 too much step down ... i'm now in the market for a new mixer board....craig

My problem turned out to be the 4-in-1 unit. When I replaced it with a new one all the twiching and glitching went away. The heat sink helps a lot to keep the motors cooler and the training gear is great for outdoors use.

Happy Flying!
