Hi, I have brought a scorpion 4020 and found there is a circlip on the shaft that fouls on the engine mount plate. The motor will attach to the plate but the circlip is prevented from spinning with the shaft by the mount plate shaft opening.

Is this a abd thing. I would need to enlarge the shaft opening on the mount plate by 2mm either side to create clearance for the circlip to rotate with the shaft, this would weaken th eplate.

Any ideas?

ideas... yeah... don't use a motor that is to big to fit between the pitch and roll arms without making mods..

removing any amount of material from something only makes it weaker... the only way to make it stronger is to add to it.. so yes, enlarging the hole will make it weaker.

The clip must be free to spin.

I just got done going through this very thing with the same motor. I could have made it work, but just didn't want to take the time...I kinda wish I had. Anyway, you can make a plate from a peice of CF frame material, circuit board, or similar material to put between the motor and mount to raise it up a bit (this was the easy part). You will likely have to move your arms out (metioned previously) and/or motor foreward by using a bigger front main gear (60T).

I would like to hear how it goes for you. It really shouldn't be a big deal. It's just that MY time is so limited, and I won't need that much power for my 550mm blades for quite a while to come (mild sport flying) so I didn't make the effort. I do believe it will be worth the effort.

I had considered a different kind of clip that didn't protrude so much.............??

Hi I noticed this issue just the other day when fitting my 4020. I spaced the arms with Hirobo CF Eagle Frame spacers 2521-069 3x8x7, perfect. I went and bought 10 x 8mm spare circlips.
I got the original one and dremmel cut-off wheel cut the tags off to make it round, then cut some angles on the inner faces to look like this / \ this way normal circlip pliers will get a bite on the points for removal.
Clears the mount with no spacer for the motor. The motor sits close to the top, inside the canopy. So not ideal to space up. I also removed some canopy at the top for motor venting as done previously for Gaui SP1300Kv.
I still have 10 spare circlips.
I also cut some flats on the shaft at the correct location for pinion grub screws to lock.
Also cut the excess shaft length off so to not rub servo wires running below.

The Ideal situation for this motor is to run a Head Hunter Frame set. I was told the motor fits wiithout issues.
