Swash and pitch set on HB CP2

In my attemps to get my HB more stable in hover, I started playing with head speed and pitch. I checked the pitch and found it to be in excess of 10 degrees in normal. I reduced it to 10 degrees. The head speed increased and the HB did seem to get a little bit more stable. The next day I went to do some more testing and it would not get off the ground. I noticed that the swash was not traveling as far as I think it did before. The movement in normal is 1/16" and in throttle up is 3/16".

Does anyone know if these are normal? That should the swash movement be and what should the pitch be set at?

I think most of the insability is from all the slop in the head. Poor quality of parts. I'm in the process of building a T-Rex and the quality of parts is quite a bit better. You get what you pay for!

I think I found the source of the problem - the Tx. I tried out my 7CHP and the servos have full range. I guess I need to figure out how to program it for the HB.

Anyone else run into this?

The pitch and throttle curves are very similar to the Trex. I'm sure you've already seen finless' vids on curves. By CH7 do you mean 7CHP (futaba?) or something else? If so Bob's vids will help a lot.

Yes, 7CHP. When I ordered it, I ordered the same frequency as my HB with the hopes that I might use it with the HB. The only problem that I'm having is that the Throttle/pitch stick is reversed with the elevator stick. I'm tying to find out if the stick assignments can be switched on the 7CHP.

Look in the book on how to set it for mode two operation. I think you hold down the mode button when you switch it on (or maybe both buttons, can't remember). anyway, that takes you to the main setup menu. Once it's set, power off then back on. For the HB, you want HR3 parameter and PPM. Also don't forget the idle up switch is on the left corner on the 7C, opposite of the USB Tx.

Thanks, I found instructions on another forum for setting up the 7CHP. It was actually fairly easy. I feel better now that I will be able to use the HB for more than a paper weight. The basic steps are as follows after defining a new model:

1. Unplug both motors from the 4 in 1.
2. Plug the front (elevator) servo into the 4 in 1 Ch 2. plug the other two into ch1 and ch 6(interchangeable).
3. Set reversing on ch 2 so the the elevator servo moves in the proper direction for stick movement.
4. Set swash for aileron and pitch so they move in the proper direction (as per finless ccpm #2 video).
5. Get all three servos electrical centered.
6. Level the swash with the link rods.
7. Set all other settings as needed per finless video.

For the 7C you will probably need to add some expo, usually around -35. Gets real touchy without it. Best way is to actually program it to use expo when you throw a switch. That way you can work back and forth and see what's best for you and the heli. Also the switch let's you see if it really makes a difference.

Yeah I reckon you're right. My Twister CP(Blade/HB CP clone) has loads of slop in the head and not great centering servos - its hovers very unstable, you just can't get it to stay still and it rises and falls several feet every few seconds. It does fly, but you spend a lot of time fighting with it. I'm just starting fff and often when she comes out of a turn she will just drop, a lot - since the stock motor isn't too powrfull either I practically run out of collective/power before I can arrest the fall - not good. I jus' gotta get a Trex before I go insane with frustration (maybe too late).

Align must love e-flite and e-sky. The BCP and HB CP2 are selling a lot of T-rexs. It sounds like you may be suffering from some collective stickyness. Read all about it at http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=452072.
I found that the assembly on mine was incorrect. Others report that after correcting the problem things get much more stable and responsive. I didn't find mine until I developed a TX problem. I tore down the head to set the heli up for my Futaba 7CHP(leveling the swash). The center hub spindle was bent and incorrectly assembled. After building and setting up the T-Rex, I am trying to get the HB dialed in. Waiting for parts for now!!!
