so once i re-installed a new owb shaft and put it all on, i'm noticing waaay more up and down play, to the point that the front main gear can either rub on the top of the hole in the cf frame or on the bottom. i was thinking i might have put the bottom bearing block on backwards.,... is the bearing stop supposed to be pointing upwards or downwards? i have it so the stop is on the bottom, keeping the bearing from falling out. but i'm thinking that the screw that goes in the bottom of the shaft should keep it in regardless.... is this right? i know i should know this but i just can't seem to figger what's casing this enormous amount of play. wanna fly today dammit!

you installed the shim....right?? and if you didn't use a Gaui part... you might need both shims..

yeah i used the washer that goes in between the owb and the bottom bearing...

try both washers... I know on mine I have almost no play...

ok now i'm really getting pissed off...
after i had it all installed, i realized that the whole bearing plate was mounted upside down (with the bearing stops at the bottom, which made the main shaft bearing rise up and almost all the way out after just spinning the blades by hand) so i switched it and re installed and it seems that now i can't get the little holes at the top of the owb shaft to match up with the grub screw holes in the front main gear! they're like 1mm too low for it to fit.

can somebody please give a description of the whole layout of the owb shaft from top to bottom because i'm so flustered i can't think if i'm doing it right and the instructions are not helpin at all. i have this:
bottom bearing, thin washer, owb, aluminum washer (the one that's like a little tube) then top bearing then front main gear. am i missing something here??? :arggg::arggg:

stephhy.....big breasts...i meant breaths:o.......now - bearing block bearing facing up, thin shim, owb, bearing block bearing facing down, alloy riser,1st gear.and get your owb the right way round ie freewheeling anti clockwise

Yup. And i don't know if this will help ya or not Bobby, but when i put mine together last, i didn't tighten the bearing blocks down all the way until after i had everything else in place and all lined up nice and true.

Bobby,

I think that this is where you are going wrong - I think that the tubular washer goes on top of the upper bearing.

Good luck,
Mike

New problem!!!
one of the grub screws attaching the front main gear to the owb shaft is COMPLETELY stripped and stuck.... rrrrrrgh dammit **** shit crap hole is there any way to remove this??? i know how to remove normal stripped screws but a grub screw??? dammit

get a good allen key and superglue the bastard in.give superglue time to set before removing.if that fails tap oversize star drive in

I had the same problem... then I bought a new set of GOOD quality wrenches... took the screw right out... or get a cheap throw away allen key ( the L shaped ones) and do like marco said... glue it in and then take the screw out...

well i figured out a way to assemble the whole shaft (with aluminium riser on top) without having to remove the front main gear so looks like i won't have to take that little shithead out until i want to change the gear. btw- everything fits perfectly now. thanks guys.

oh- so i'm doing an experiment here, using a gearing setup i don't think i've seen anybody else use. i'm using as big of gears as possible (with a big a$$ pinion of course) and running a 100% pitch curve in idle up to see how that flies. the new gearing is 16/60/20/61. now that its all back together i'll go see how it works. i'm hoping it will be very efficient and still give good pop (guessing around 2000-2100 hs).

does anyone know if the revco pinions work with the stock gears? i may wanna try the 18t to bump it up

mysticmead

NO... the revco pinions do NOT work on the stock gears...

Bobby...

I do believe I have seen bigger pinions at Tower Hobby under their car parts.

I forget what mod we use...(I know mystic knows it) actually that's a good name for him...kind of like he has mystic powers....but I digress.....anyway the car people use use pinions like us in all sizes......I know it's a 5mm shaft....

I think it's a mod .8 pinion....and if you google it....you'll get several websites that carry them in all #'s

Tower carries them:

well, looks like i'm getting awesome power with this setup so i may not need to get a bigger pinion!

bobbybe

actually, getting a bigger pinion now... i wanna see how much i can push this bugger with the bigger gears. i really think i'm on to something because it seems to auto a bit better now and i'm getting more pop at less hs then before. maybe it has something to do with having more weight swinging around in a bigger circle (gear) that stores more of the power. i'm going to try the 17t for now and see how that goes. plus, i love having it at 100% in my tc!! i'm still bogging a bit on tictocs tho (well... part of it is that i suck at tictocs... they look more like tic-stutter-tock-sideways-a-bit-tic-go-really-low-tock-punchout-at-weird-angle)

ps- thanks for the link wis1!!

Can ya run that last part by us again... Cause it seems that you're doing the old tic- ohhhhh crap not that way---turn you POS- getupgetupgetup----toc....actually, getting a bigger pinion now... i wanna see how much i can push this bugger with the bigger gears. i really think i'm on to something because it seems to auto a bit better now and i'm getting more pop at less hs then before. maybe it has something to do with having more weight swinging around in a bigger circle (gear) that stores more of the power. i'm going to try the 17t for now and see how that goes. plus, i love having it at 100% in my tc!! i'm still bogging a bit on tictocs tho (well... part of it is that i suck at tictocs... they look more like tic-stutter-tock-sideways-a-bit-tic-go-really-low-tock-punchout-at-weird-angle)

haha so true :dontknow

i was just packing up from flying a few batts and an old man came up with his 3 grandkids and was all bummed that i was packing up. i couldn't say no so i flew my last batt for them (and had them stand about 40 ft behind me and some trees) and it was soo cool. every time i did a loop or a roll or anything fast i could just hear the kids laughing and ooohing. they especially loved it when i did some stationary flips close to the deck. man i love flyin:thumbup:
