60 - 90 Conversion

Stupid question, but I am Upgrading old faithful R60 V2 to a 90 and am fitting the TT upgrade kit..
Why do I need to fit the hardened main shaft when there's nothing wrong with the 4 year old original, and the auto bearing runs on its own insert :?
It can't bend in flight? or can it?

I believe the main shaft was changed in V2. They probably are assuming that you may have a R60 V1.

I installed the new shaft anyway... but will keep the old one for a spare..
