These Lama's are getting bigger and bigger with Walkera's new Lama 400 helicopter (http://www.rcuniverse.com/buynow/keywordclick.cfm?bid_id=4724). Measuring 650mm in length with lighting and moving tail rotor blade!! The tail rotor is power by motor but it is just for looks not functional. This is a very stable and realistic helicopter.

ClubHeli.com had a booth at the RC event last week in Bucks County, PA and had the 53Q on display... it was freakin' HUGE !!!!!! It was 18" long, and at first I thought it was just a plastic model, but it was real!
Now the Lama 400 is about 7 inches bigger than the 53Q! I can't imagine how big that thing must be! You must need an airplane hanger to fly it in!

Ya, I had a hard time trying to hover it in the hallway in our office.LOL. I think a gym should be ok. But It sure looks very nice and very stable as it is huge.

Has anyone tried either the 53Q or the 400 outdoors? How do they handle a little wind? I've seen conflicting reports, but suspect some were opinions not based on actual experience.

Has anyone tried either the 53Q or the 400 outdoors?
Last Saturday, Steve and I watched Rick (from Clubheli.com) fly his 53Q3. He flew it briefly outdoors in light winds...unfortunately, an unexpected downdraft brought the heli down from about 20ft up. At least it landed in the soft grass and sustained minimal damage. Rick was still able to fly it inside my house later that day. It is a really nice model though. I'd like to eventually use one as a camera platform.

You think that's huge - at one time Walkera were considering a nitro contra rotator called the LM8 it had a 1150mm rotor disk - overall length was 1130mm and was driven with the A50 engine - it was in their 2007 catalogue and was designed for aerial photography - although it was never released (to my knowledge)

Yeah go a Lama400D a few weeks ago, (I'm relativity new to the hobby flying a smaller Chinese no-name indoor lama model which was so fun, I wanted to try the bigger model)....
The Lama400D is certainly a nice model to fly, but a little weak in the wind... I find that the wind carries the heli and even if I lean the heli into the wind to go forward it only holds its position if lucky, otherwise lower it for a safe landing and go for a walk to pick it up..
A gym probably is the best place for this heli... plenty of room to play...
Hey can anyone suggest a stronger 450 - 500 series electric heli? or maybe a couple of reviews to check out? to fly outside.
Cheers Anthony
