hey all,

i had static problems wtih my 550 originally with my castle esc...no problems since using century...

i just put the vbar 4.0 and i am glitching while flying and it has to be static...

is the orange belt better then the black at not causing static?

what can i do...this is crazy...

You can spray the belt with a graphite spray such as graphit33 and ground the pulley to the motor mount.

do you have any photos of how you grounded the pulley to the motor mount?

i just performed the ground modification...i hope it takes care of it...

also are the newer style belts less prone to static...

where is it coming from the belt? the pulleys? the???

thanks

Larry,
as the newer belts are the same brand that TT has used on thier Raptors for years, I would say no..just as subject to static as any.

I used a washer under the screw head that holds one side of the top roller on the belt in the tail case. I pincheda wire uner the washer and ran a few inches to the horizontal fin mount. Iremoved a spot of finish from the boom under the clamp and trapped the bare tag end of the wire under the clamp.

Did the same thing under the front servo mount to the back bolt on the motor mount plate using ring terminals and ran a wire up with the bare end brushing the boom and to a bearing block and under an idle pulley.

I did this back in January when the weather was cold. I posted some pics in some thread here in the OR550 forum and I cant post them again on HF without deleting the others

I have continuity everywhere. I di not tie a ground into the electrical system as some do

I was proactive on the ESD thing as I never worried about it and back in October or so, I was cruising around in my new Raptor E-620 on a barely cool day when, Crack, dead CC HV 85 from a big static discharge. My first auto from altitude:wow2:

The Outrage boom is longer than most 550's and "may" make it more susceptable to ESD.Just a WAG. The 620 Raptors are known for being victims but I was not worried about it till too late.

I used small awg noodle wire and it only took about 45 minutes to...hopefully make my OR ESD proof

The wire from the motor mount that brushes the boom is just stuck down to the bearing block in front of the motor mount with some of the semi transparent 3M indoor/outdoor double stick gum (not foam) with about 3/4" of the insulation stripped and the strands fanned out.

How do you like your flybarless setup otherwise?

Good luck.

Jimmy

i will look for your post...

the flybarless is cool but i didnt get enough time on it as it glitched every 10-20 seconds...

heres the update...

i put in the ground wire... i also sprayed the belt with silicon...

1.5 flights good at the end of the 2nd flight i got a glitch again....is it possible the silicon wore off that fast?

what else can i do to correct this the correct way?

when will a torque tube be available to avoid this problem?

Like quite a few here I've been using Graphit 33. I spray some into a cup and brush it onto the belt insitu. I've done just over 100 flights now, and there's still a reasonable amount on the belt, but I'll probably redo it soon just to be safe. I also did the boom to pulley to motor mount ground. So far not a single glitch. I'll put money on it being the Graphit 33 more than the grounding mod. A can will last you a lifetime!

Good luck with your V-bar, I've just put one on my Trex500 as a test bed before I dare put it on the 550!

Larry,

Charley did not design the 550 to have a TT, not sure if he even plans to in the future

I dont think that you can. If you know anyone in the same state that has some get them to spray some in a little plastic bottle that has a lis that seals up all the way and tight. Have them mail it in a small priority shipping box.

Since it would no longer be a pressureized can it shouldnt be illegal to ship it like that If the bottle doesnt seal perfectly the carrier material will eveporate out of the stuff. If it did, you could put a little light oil like Triflow in it and mix it up again.

A teaspoon full would do a couple of belts if you use a little artist brush and brush it on.

You cannot buy Graphit33 in North America, but any graphite anti-static spray should work the exact same.

So does anyone have brand name or a place where it can be found?
