Just out of curiosity, why is it that rc turbines are not generally as powerful as their nitro equivalents when in the full scale world, turbines are the most powerful engines (or so I believe!).?

Hmm, not sure what you are interpreting as powerful, but the Wren MW 54 2 stage puts out 8HP at full throttle of 160,000 RPM..

What Nitro engine compares to that?

If you are referring to a thrust type of engine, compare the, I believe, 12 or 14 Lbs of thrust from the MW54 SS to any Nitro swinging a prop...Can you get that much thrust from a Nitro swinging a prop? I truly don't know here..

Sorry, I shouldn't have used the term 'powerful' as I don't mean just pure horsepower. I mean for example the fact that turbines in a 3D helicopter are not as appropriate as nitro -why is that? Do they have lower power/weight ratios? Do they lack the necessary torque? What is the reason?

Turbines are heavier and have greater mass

Average turbine 90 size hellie 6-9kilo

But with the new MW40 things may change
