View Full Version : Can I use trex carbon fiber tail blades on Lepton?

I just looked at some Trex carbon tail blades and they are just a little longer than stock Lepton blades. Is there any reason I couldn't use them? Do you think they would be a improvement? I would have to but in washers because the mounting area is a little thiner. ???

Yes you can use them BUT they dont help much in tail power.

They are thinner where they go into the grips, is it ok to just mount with a couple of washers to take up some of the space?

One of the Hirobo reps was using Viper 70 tail blades at the Hirobo Cup. I ordered a set from FX Aeromodels and plan to use those.

Does anyone know what the largest tail blades you can use?

I also ordered the Viper 70 tail rotor blades, thanks for the tip,

Anyone want to order me a set before I go nuts worrying about this?

Honestly I am going to try the stock tail this weekend to prove the issue to myself! I have laready made up a set of blades from Hirobo shuttle blades (plastic) cut to 72mm. once I test stock if I see an issue I will try those.

Robbe Spirit li carbon blades seem to work too.

Thought I would jump in here. :)

The stock tail blades work fine to fly the heli. Like any other plastic tail blade, they may not be the best for ripping 3D but for normal fun flying aerobatics they are fine.

Trex Blades are the same overall size and will fit the heli with shims added between the blade grip and the blade. Hyperion also offers some longer tail blades as well. I am waiting to get some.

One thing to check is to make sure the belt is not slipping when hard acceleration is done. The Belt on the Lepton needs to be tighter than looser, especially with 4S

Also gyro gain coupled with tail servo pivot ball position helps especially with the 4S setup. The 3S setup is a little more easier to control the torque in the heli for obvious reasons. I found on mine that I needed a higher gyro gain when the 4S was used. Mine is set around 45-50% as I recall up from 35% on the 3S. I need to confirm this for certain. My pivot ball is set at 12.5mm out from center.

The tail will still blow out if the head is bogged like a nitro heli. Again this is a setup, stick banging adjustable parameter.:)

The only maneuver I have not been able to consistently perform is a piro funnel with mine. We are looking for that tail blade solution now.

Thanks for the feedback. Feel free to contact me at jeff@modelrectifier.com if you have any other questions.

Thanks for jumpin in Jeff.... Thanks for the tips. Maiden will be this weekend so I will see how it goes with a stock build and 4S.

There are also some good tips on RR from a few people. I don't know the etiquette for posting RR stuff so I didn't want to do simple copy/paste.
