What is up?
Tom
The Trewx 600 Build videos will be listed here.

Check out the announcement video here:
Trex 600 announcement video (http://video.helifreak.com/?subpath=finless/trex600&filename=rexannounce.wmv)

First up:

Kit Contents Overview
What's in the box!! (18 Megs) (http://video.helifreak.com/?subpath=finless/trex600&filename=inthebox.wmv)

VIDEO -> Steps 1 and 2 - Blade grips and head (18 Megs) (http://video.helifreak.com/?subpath=finless/trex600&filename=steps1_2.wmv)

VIDEO -> Step 3 - Seesaw and flybar (50 Megs) (http://video.helifreak.com/?subpath=finless/trex600&filename=step3.wmv)

VIDEO -> Steps 4, 5 & 6 - Head, washout, and swash plate (20 Megs) (http://video.helifreak.com/?subpath=finless/trex600&filename=steps4_5_6.wmv)

VIDEO -> Steps 7 & 8 - Main gear and frames (25 Megs) (http://video.helifreak.com/?subpath=finless/trex600&filename=steps7_8.wmv)

VIDEO -> Steps 10 & 11 - Trays, Motor mount, and Control arms (20 Megs) (http://video.helifreak.com/?subpath=finless/trex600&filename=step10_11.wmv)

VIDEO -> Steps 12 - Landing Gear (9 Megs) (http://video.helifreak.com/?subpath=finless/trex600&filename=step12.wmv)

OK folks. At this point for ease of video purposes I am skipping steps 13 through 16 (tail and tail rotor) and going to 17 servo install and head set up. I will return to these steps near the end.

VIDEO -> Servo Install and linkage setup (44 Megs) (http://video.helifreak.com/?subpath=finless/trex600&filename=servo_setup.wmv)

VIDEO -> Head and link setup (30 Megs) (http://video.helifreak.com/?subpath=finless/trex600&filename=head_setup.wmv)

VIDEO -> Installing the motor and setting the pinion (15 Megs) (http://video.helifreak.com/?subpath=finless/trex600&filename=motor_pinion.wmv)

VIDEO -> Installing the electronics (38 Megs) (http://video.helifreak.com/?subpath=finless/trex600&filename=electronics.wmv)

OK I will now be going back to page 13 and doing the tail of the heli and this will include setting up the servo.

VIDEO -> Tail boom, tail case, and tail shaft (30 Megs) (http://video.helifreak.com/?subpath=finless/trex600&filename=steps13_14.wmv)

VIDEO -> Tail pitch slider and tail hub (22 Megs) (http://video.helifreak.com/?subpath=finless/trex600&filename=step15.wmv)

VIDEO -> Boom supports and fins (22 Megs) (http://video.helifreak.com/?subpath=finless/trex600&filename=step16.wmv)

VIDEO -> Tail servo and gyro setup (35 Megs) (http://video.helifreak.com/?subpath=finless/trex600&filename=gyro_setup.wmv)

OK basically that is it! I hope you all enjoy the build vids and please feel free to give feedback!
The below vid is just some final comments nothing big. I moved the ESC to the other side of the heli due to the antenna routing as I did this build without the skids on and after placing the skids I realized it was not good to have the ESC close to the antenna.

VIDEO -> Final comments (6 Megs) (http://video.helifreak.com/?subpath=finless/trex600&filename=final.wmv)

VIDEO -> How to mount the flight power 4900 to the Trex600 (19 Megs) (http://video.helifreak.com/?subpath=finless/flightpower&filename=hf4900trex600.wmv)

Well I hope you all enjoyed this as much as I did doing the vids!

Enjoy,
Bob

Need help I am having trouble setting up the rudder. I am using Spectrum DX7 with input select on Gear / Gear the Gyro is a GY401 with a 9254 servo. I have watched Bob excellent video and understand the process. What is happening when I turn the BEC on and the stick is in center the rudder is not centered is it will not go back to center even I move the stick and see it is centered. Also it makes a constant sound I can not tell if it is the servo or the gyro. Any help would be great.

I don't know about the DX7, because I don't have one, but it sounds as if your gyro is in HH mode. It will only centre on the bench if it is in normal mode. The gyro channel must be assigned to a switch on the tx to flip from normal to heading hold mode.

Maybe someone with a DX can help you out here......

The constant whining sound is normal for a digital servo, don't worry about it.

Go to Microsoft.com and do a search for WM9codecs

Or try this:
http://www.codecs.com/download/XP_Codec_Pack.htm

That fixed all sorts of vid problems in my MCE.

Finless,
I just started my build and I already have a problem with step 2! In the instructions for the thrust bearing install into the blade grip it says to put the large diameter towards the head and the smaller diameter towards the blade, well the washer with the large diameter wont fit into the blade grip. Also the instructions say that the thin washer will be the large diameter and the thick will be the smaller diameter but its actually the opposite on the washers I have. Any ideas/tips? Thanks!

I used my blades to seperate the grips a bit, then I kinded of help them apart with my thumbs as I slipped in the washers.

Thats the problem, the washer with the large diameter is to large and even when holding the grip apart its still too large to just drop into the hole.

Are both washers the same outside diameter?

sd2602

Nope, the large inner diameter is just slightly larger. Does the thickness of the washers matter? Can I just file the one down?

rdlohr

I spread the grips and used the inner washer to hold the apart just at the end of the grip. I then slipped the shaft thru from the inside right through the washer. After that I start adding parts then pushed them all down at once.

The outside diameters of mine match exactly.

I cant do that, the one washer is to big and wont just drop into the hole.

Is it just a burr is is it an incorrrectly sized washer?

rdlohr

If you place both washers for each grip (all 4) on top of each other, how many seem to be the wrong size?

sd2602
01-06-2007, 10:29 PM
I think the washer is just a little off, i managed to get them in with a little pressure.

Excellent. I had the same problem.

Make sure when you are done both grips turn turn freely. I had one side which was binding a bit. I took it back apart and relubed it and all was fine then.

Well now I have anothe problem. I am surprised as I own 2 Trex 450s and didnt have these problems, seems like the quality of the parts isnt the greatest. Anyhow, when I tighten the set screws down to hold the flybar in place, the set screws dont reach the fly bar. Anyone else have this problem?

Well, I figured it out, the holes arent tapped all the way through. Would it be alright to use a thread tap and fix it that way or would it stress the metal too much?

Bob,
In the video you said 1 mm for the small links on the trailing edge blade holders pitch control rod arms. Thats what I call them anyhow.

My manual says 2 mm is there a reason or a change here ? Is it important?
I set my links up as per manual but noticed this little difference.

Thanks Tom

To error is human but to really mess up one needs a computer :)

Huh? Up mean the links going to the main blade grips?
