View Full Version : Model Aviation
I hear a lot of rhetoric about Model Aviation not having any relevant helicopter material. I took the time to record my latest Stratus FAI build and submitted it. SURPRISE!, the article will be published in two installments in Ray's column in July and August. I bet if some of you guys would come up with good ideas and submit articles, we could get things moving in all of the model publlications. If you have a special interest, write it up and submit it. You might be surprised, I know I was.

Nice article Gordie, as soon as I saw it i thought " I just meet that guy last week!" Too cool.

The model I flew at Nashville is the one I used in the build article. It won the non-Pro division so you can easily see it is a very capable model. It will be my primary at the NATS also barring accident before we leave for Muncie.

Gordie,
I don't know if we could write an article like you Gordie. I haven't read the whole thing yet but it's excellent so far. Very well written and great detail.
Thanks,
Jeff

The space that they allow for heli in MA comparative to acro is in poor proportion. MANY new people in the hobby are going with vertical flight for whatever their reasons (ie space, hobby simpler now w/ gyro and governors) but for whatever reason i shouldnt have to wait two months for one review. With all the new equipment that is coming on the market we could write a review and people might be able to see it well part 1 in about two years!!!!!!! i'd like to see an even or maybe a third of the publication devoted to heli. put two pages and you have to wait two months to read one article? :dontknow But thats my 2 pennies.
You wouldn't have to wait two months if I wasn't so long winded. <G> While I also would like to have more heli related stuff in M.A. I have come to realize that %age-wise, we are not a large group within AMA, especially since many of the heli flyers are not AMA members and since M.A. caters to the entire modeling community, I'm sure everyone else pretty much feels like they don't get much coverage either. We have dedicated heli magazines like MHW and Rotary but I'm not sure what M.A. can do to make everyone happy. I wonder how many guys still fly controline carrier? They have a column most every month.

Good Job as aways Gordie!
MA does a good job considering they have to cover the whole spectrum of the hobby...

Hey Gordie, Great artical with good tips but I still have a question. Do your students think your long winded?  :noteworthy
First article is a set up how to for FAI. The second is another build article.

It may not be as long as you might think before things start or continue to shift more to the rotary side of the hobby. With flying fields being eaten up by new development or whatever, it's going to be harder and harder for the large plank fields to keep going. Not that all of them will be gone but a fair amount have already. It just stands to reason that unless you want to get into much smaller planks or park flyers, the heli side should continue to pick up more and more people.
Gordie, great job on the build article. I don't think it's long winded, just very informative with a lot of detail that is needed.

Are you going to use the stratus for the setup article or just an overall example.
The pictures will be of a Stratus but the article itself will be generic.
