Well, finally the time has come to order my Logo500 kit, BEC, motor and lipo's...

I tried out the V-Stabi V4.0 on my T-Rex500, and that was a success ! So now I am ready for the Logo.

I already have :

- the most important upgrades I read about on this forum;
- servo's, the BLS251 for the tail and BLS252 for the cyclic (= an F3C servo);
- the V-Stabi;
- ESC, a Phoenix 85HV (I know about the gov issues - Jive might come later but I am used to throttle curves, so we'll see how it goes).

What I need :

- the Logo 500 3D kit with flybarless head;
- a BEC, because the CC 85HV is Otpto-coupled;
- a motor;
- some lipo's.

I bought a HV speed controller, because I like the HV-principle. I tought about 8S, 10S, 12S, but found it hard to decide, so I wanted to start with 6S and see how that goes.

But...as I have 2 pieces of Flightmax lipo's for my T-Rex500, 2650 mAh 6S, 30-40C, which I haven't used yet, I was thinking to use those. A set of 2 only costs about $115, about the same as one 6S 500 mAh of the same brand. I know, Flightmax isn't the same as some other brands that cost twice the price or even three times more, but my flying skills aren't that good that I notice lots of differences between the lipo brands. So for me, it is important to have many lipo's, so I can fly a lot !

Is this a good idea or not ? For the motor, I was thinking about the Scorpion HK 4025-630. Combined with a 13T pinion that should give me an acceptabel HS I think, or would the 740 be a better idea ?

The BEC will be a WR Hercules SuperBEC, the obvious choice I guess.

So, any comments/hints/tips about this setup are welcome, becouse I have to start ordering the things I haven't got already !

Grtz,

Yves.

I'm using a HV85 on 12s A123 and it's governor working now. Not as good as others but after a few flights I pretty much like it.
About the motor, the HK4020-740 is meant for 10s. Have a look at their application guide -> http://www.scorpionsystem.com/files/download/HK Application Guide.pdf
The new WR BEC looks really nice and is on my wish list too. If you really push it hard you maybe should think about upgrading the head.

You want to keep the L500 fairly light due to the small rotor size
4025 motors can be used in the L500 but they add weight and can give the battery a hard time

12S into 630kv on 13T pinion is correct

The 4020-910 on 8S is a good option
I have that on my L500 VBar but have not data logged it yet

THe 4020-1100 on 6S is also a good option
I have this on my L500 flybar and have data logged it
The battery is not over stressed - and yet I have good power

Thanks for the quick advices.

I want to go HV to put less stress on the lipo's. I don't fly 3D (yet), just some heavy sports flying. So I don't need very high headspeeds.

Are there people that can compare the flighttimes, between a 6S setup - 8S - 10S - ... ?

Maybe an 8S or 10S would be a better option for me ? A bit lighter maybe ? What mAh do I need in these configs ? Around 4000 8S and 3000 10S ?

I have 2 sets of blades, the Maniac 553 mm and a set of CGT Xtreme blades (der Blattschmiedt - not very known in the USA I think) which are 530 mm. Suppose Klaus knows them.

Generally going for a higher S setup just reduces the current,
but the wattage you are consuming is much the same.
When you go higher S you use packs with a lower capacity,
so the average C discharge rate is much the same

If you want to go easy on the packs just use bigger capacity
That will also reduce the collective pop
Or use a lower headspeed - that definitely reduces the power consumption

Will a Scorpion 4035 motor fit the 500?

Will a Scorpion 4035 motor fit the 500?

Yes... but a little bit heavy... a 4025 would be lighter. Be aware of that a 4035 comes with 8mm shaft (down to the area where you would put your pinion) but can be ordered with 5 or 6mm too! A 4025 has the same shaft but comes with 5 or 6mm...
