Well folks, the Brunswick Area Modeler's club took the credit for the 100th flight of the Spectra-g while I am on the 4th vacation here in Maine.
Last year people were having problems with Spectra-g's and at that time when I bought one I was determined to make it work and make it work well for me.
Now that I have completed 100 flights with the machine, I am more and more confident that things have finally settled down and that the machine is flying reliably. I've come a long way and thinking back I had to solve a few problems along the way but looks like I finally have a working model. By the way, just want to also say that I did not have my tail rotor shaft break, tail rotor fly off, or lose the pushrod to the tailrotor. I remember hearing this was a problem in the past, but Minair has solved that with the new metal tail box and the brass sleeve on the pushrod to the tailrotor -- this is how my kit came stock last September.
I have really been enjoying this model and the performance of it is a good step up from its older sister ship, the 1005 gasser. Very agile, crisp and responsive, and I don't even turn up the rotors (flying mostly 1640, sometimes 1730 rpms).
While I did fly it with a G231 for 70 of those 100 flights, the new G26 from Al seems to be smooth enough for the heli and its making great power (very noticable when compared to the G231) that I'm loving all that extra power and the fact that I can push the sticks to the limits and not bog the machine.
All in all I am pleased with the machine and I am confident now that I came make this ship fly and fly well. "Too many helis" from Maine if you are reading this I'll be at your FF in the end of July and I'll be glad to look over your machine and help you make the necessary adjustments to make yours go just as well! :D
