Hi guys, I just purchased a used Fury Expert, and it'll be shipped to me tomorrow. It's a newer one (Post 2003), and I'm wondering if there are specific issues and things I should check on it. This will be my first Fury, but not even close to my first heli, and I've owned a number of older X-Cells.

What weak areas should I check? I'm planning all the standards, like tail box, head, etc, but are there any specifics?

mainshaft collars, definately the tail, the expert has the plastic tail box..
tail rotor transmission alignment.. this model has the two piece block for the mainshaft and tail transmission pinion.. works good, but it can be a PITA to adjust.
There really aren't many weak spots, just normal wear issues, ie: mesh, bearings, etc.

I would do like Wayne suggested.

Upgrade to the metal tail gearbox for reliability

Upgrade to the one piece tail drive transmission block for ease of alignment

Install the 3rd bearing support and the extreme mainshaft. for more support.

That will help you get going and save some wear and tear on the mainshaft bearings.

The Expert is pretty bullet proove.
If there is a weak link then it is the tail gearbox.
My bird was 2nd hand as well and purchased from a hardcore 3D pilot.
The tail gears showed definite heavy wear and were replced recently, otherwise it's build like a tank.
