I tried my first auto today - complete failure :mad::mad:

I tried from about 8 foot high, flipped into throttle hold, it leaped up about 4 foot, and then came straight down  damage was 1 blade and the boom (very, very slight) plus for some reason the ESC - I'm not sure why, but the other blade got stuck under the horizontal fin and the servos where trying to move which may have overheated the ESC.

Anyway I have nicked the ESC from my spare 550, so back in the air, but I'd like to keep it ready so would like to find a cheap Gaui 50 amp ESC if anyone sees or knows of one.

Cheers,
Mike.

if the heli jumped when you hit TH... that means you have a very strange TH pitch curve set up.... I would suggest making the TH pitch curve look like the IU1 and IU2 curves... then when you flip the switch... not change in pitch...not jump in altitude...and the heli doesn't plumet...

Yeah - I checked that immediately and I had something very strange set there, now changed

Sorry to hear about the damage...Mike. The high pitch change ate up all the inertia, hence the plummet to mother earth....

The first time I tried an auto it was from about 50 feet...little forward movement into the wind.....went to a little negative pitch....flared momentarily at about 7 feet....then pitched over to flat....and fed in some positive pitch. I was amazed at how well the hurri autos.

But....I'll bet it will be a while before you "purposely" hit the TH.

I also have my TH set with more pitch at high end....and only about 4 deg neg.
