What is the latest on the G3 receiver? I read where Futaba put out a notice to shorten the antenna wire to 55mm to stop glitches, etc. Then I read that if you are not having problems, don't cut your antenna. The reason I ask what the latest with the G3 is. I am getting close to installing the electronics in a Turbine scale heli. I really don't want to fly a $10,000 heli with a G3 doing R&D for Futaba to see if I need to cut or not to cut the antenna. I have 5 of the G3's and a couple of the old stand-by R149DP and a few of the R319DPS receivers. I have had no problems with the 14MZ radio, I really like the radio, its great to program with.

I installed the G3 in a electric XeroG 600EP to some testing. With a couple of dozen flights i had no problems. I installed a G3 in a Joker electric and on spool up, the receiver went into fail safe and the heli slowly came off the ground and floated with the wind right into some pine trees. No control and the electric motor did not go into fail-safe off position as set. I put another G3 in a Spectra G to see how they reacted with gassers but I don't have enough time on it to comment. I have not tried any Deans or base load antenna installation yet. I was wondering what the Jet guys are doing with controlling a 25 lb plane traveling at 150MPH with the G3 receivers ????

Other than that, a simple search will get you a whole lot of varied opinions on this topic.

Been running base loaded revolution with no problems at all. Hell just cut all but 4 inches attach.

Hi Rcfan
I read that post a year ago. But I was wondering if the statement from the FACTORY "Because testing continues at this time" if after a year if their testing continues or have they updated their statement after a year.
If Rodey and others have had good luck with no problems using a base load antenna I will consider going that route.

I am using a G3 in my Lepton EX and have had no problems. I was going to put it in my Vibe 90 but never got around to it. I just got another G3 RX and will be using it in my Trex 600 so I will status you how that goes this weekend.

Yes by all means do the mod and fly with the shorter antenna wire. I almost crashed several times last year due to G3 rx picking up electrical noise due to bearings. In one incident noticed the data rate would appear to slow down when the rx was getting hit with noise. Not a complete lockout but I could tell the gyro/tail was not keeping up with my commands. I landed then added locktite to the main shaft where the bearings touch and flew the machine without experiencing any additional intermittent problems.

In this case one of the bearing inner race was not locked to the main shaft and was causing metal to metal noise. The heli is a Fury Tempest 3D. The main shaft was starting to get a grove where the inner race was touching. The locktite prevented the inner race from slipping. However, taking the main shaft out is a lot harder. I need to remove the entire bearing block and heat it up to remove the bearing without damage.

Now I spend more time making sure all high speed shafts have very good bearings but so far with the shorter antenna I have not had a single lockout or incident were I was having intermittent control.

Flew 4 flights with 2048 receiver on my R90SE today with absolutely no problems whatsoever. I didn't check the length of my receiver antenna, but I'm pretty sure it's the new shorter length right from the factory. I'm a happy man :)

You made me remember something. When I got the Radio [14MZ] about an year ago, the two G3 I ordered with the radio the antenna wire were of .the long length. I purchased three G3's a few months back and they were cut to the 55cm from the factory, I guess. And then I purchased some more a few weeks ago and they were cut to a length of 51cm. I did contact Futaba and they told me to send the short ones back under warranty to be replaced with the longer antenna. They did not say what length. I will post when I receive them back.

I fly one g3 rx with a short antenna in my avant and one g3 rx in a stratus with a long antenna. I've had no problems in both helis.

4 G3 rx all with 55cm with no problems. It's worth mentioning that I had a few lock outs in the past as a result of the extra sensetivity of the longer g3 antenna. Since I modified them, I haven't had any lock out.
