View Full Version : HELP = 9303 + Phoenix CC35 esc + Governor Mode
Hi guys,
Setup:
Blade 400, stock 6ch receiver, GY520 Gyro, DS-3500-G Tail, HS65MG swashplate, Phoenix CC35 ESC using built-in BEC and a JR 9303 radio.
While playing with the throttle curve and pitch curve I came to the conclusion that I will like to fly my bird in governor mode. I really like the flight behavior of a fixed RPM.
The 9303 has a Governor Mode and the ESC has one too.
9303
When I enable the Governor Mode on the radio, instead of getting the % on the motor it assigns them on the Gyro gain. (I normally use the GEAR sw travel ajust to set the gain, but in GOV mode, the GEAR sw is getting disabled)
CC35
I figured the RPM, Motor Gain, Timing and the all nine yards but I still don’t get how am I suppose to arm the ESC to ramp up to the desired RPM and to disarm it once landed.
My choice would be using the Phoenix GOV mode. Can someone explain in simple words how to use the ESC Governor mode?:
Thanks all.
1. The GOV menu in 9303 is for a GP heli only... the output from the GOV channel is 5 !
2. Since the CC ESC don't have a extra channel to read your GOV settings, so this won't work.
3. For your CC ESC to workin in GOV mode, (I assume you're using the PH-Link to set it), You should use your throttle curve to control the GOV. Please read the instructions from the CC manual for setting a proper throttle curve in each flight mode to select your desired head speed.

I know how to program the ESC, the manual doesn't say how to arm and disarm it in GOV modes. In normal mode I just have to put the throttle stick to the down position to arm the ESC and the down position (except for 3D) has 0 throttle. So in normal mode, I don't have issues when landing.
But in GOV mode, I can play with the throttle stick all I want, it only affects the pitch. The motor is not engaging. That's why I'm asking how do I arm the ESC? And once it starts spinning, I'm not sure if I configured my HOLD switch properly to disarm it so I have no idea how I'm going to stop this thing before the battery runs out of juice.
I will clarify my question... How do I arm and disarm the CC35 in governor mode?
I see, The ESC will only armed with the throttle stick is at low position, if you have a flat throttle curve say 50% from point 0 to point 7, the ESC will not arm !
You have 2 options,
1. set up a normal flight mode, with throttle output 0 when the stick is low, have the 2nd point to 7th point set to around 20% flat. Next you have a idle 1 throttle curve say all 50% flat. You use normal mode to start up the heli, float in the air and flick your flight mode switch to change to idle 1, now you have the desired head speed under GOV.
2, Set your throttle hold to 0% or lower, switch to throttle hold, now connect your battery to the ESC, the ESC should be armed, next flick your throttle hold switch to normal flight mode, the motor will spins now, but you have to change to throttle hold condition to stop your motor.
Hope this helps

Ahhhhhhhhhh... Ok!
I got so p-off at one point, I took the CC35 out and reinstalled the stock ESC.
I will try again and report back the results :-)

Actually, most of the ESC set the GOV in the similar way....
