Hi guys
Just a few crummy pics of my finished Helidirect HDX450 SE.
It has the Align fibreglass canopy, which is a straight fit, no need to run it higher on the chassis like the stock Align canopies, this fits perfect.
BUT....always a but. I had seen comments about cracks straight outa the box, and yes mine was as well, just the gelcoat, but a crack is a crack.
I flew 4 packs just now with it on and another crack appeared in the gelcoat next to the other crack.
I will be using a 2 part epoxy and some fibreglass cloth to re-enforce the areas around where the canopy flexes to get over the mounting posts.
Im still happy as it was only $25AU, made the heli sound like a small nitro with the gear noise in the canopy lol. Had a guy ask me what size motor it was at the park heh heh.
The other pic shows the paint that I did on the stock canopy.
IMO dont bother fussing with the stock canopy, as its very brittle and has already broken a bit around the mounting holes.
I was flying in wind gusting to about 10mph today, and aside from the usual juggling collective to get it to stay put, i was very impressed with its stability.
My setup is: HS65MG x 3, Airtronics 94761Z digital, 401, Quark 33 V1, Medusa 3400 on 11 tooth pinion giving 2600rpm.
Helidirect carbon paddles (look like V Blades but weighted like Shogun), and Helidirect carbon tail blades.
2 things i have to sort out. 1: fine tune my gyro/tail setup as im not 100% happy with it.
2: Get equal amount of pitch from pos to neg.
When I setup my servo's I plugged em in first, gave the stick a wiggle to center (all trims and EP zero'd), after that at midstick i totally zero'd end points to ensure no servo movement.
Swash tool, strm to level, give 100% end points again, low stick with swash tool, adjust end points till level, then same for high stick.
Swash is set at 65%. Getting about 9.5 pos and 8 neg.
I increased swash percentage to 75% and that gave me bang on 10deg at top, but no more at bottom.
Hmmmm, confuzzled now.
Any tips for this?
Oh yeah, my Microheli main gear does not freewheel very easily now, and I can see a bit of black gunk on the top of the bearing. This is the NSK bearing which is supposed to be the good one lol. Id heard of this prob to, but crossed my fingers and hoped lol.
Cheers
