View Full Version : Second broken pitch bellcrank...

I was just out adjusting the gyro on my Gasser EB and it started spinning wildly. Luckily I was still on the ground and did not have my camera equipment attached. A quick inspection of the tail and I saw the pitch bellcrank was broken. This is the second one to fail on me. Both times they have failed right on the hole for the insert. I have very little vibration, low gyro gain and can't figure out why I am going through bellcranks like this. I have had the helicopter since early May and have yet to fly 2 tanks through without something going wrong. Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing this? I can't afford to have one of these fail on me in flight with my AP gear attached.

Get ahold of Chris or Larry. I had the same trouble. They've got the answer for you. Sweet fix too! Thanks again to Bergen RC. You guys rock :noteworthy

I am already doing the velco support thing so I hope that is not the solution...
I'll give them a call monday
Let us all know what it is OK? I've had a few fail as well, they seem to be sorted out for me but I just want to make sure I'm still on the same page!

I called Bergen up a couple days ago and talked with Chris. He sent me the new beefier pitch bellcrank. It has a lot more material around the usual break point. I don't have any flights on it yet...too darn hot out but expect it to perform great.
I also recieved a "newsletter" that had some info about breaking them and what might cause it. Some of the things listed were
- Limit on gyro too high
- Mounting in wrong hole on bellcrank, it should be on inner hole with GY401
- Vibration
Nothing like Bergen Support :)

Nothing like Bergen Support
No doubt!
I have flown with mine installed and it works just as you'd expect...perfectly. The other possible reason...'newer pilots' is one reason I'm hoping is not the case. I'm hoping Chris will take a look at mine at the Buckeye Heli Fest next weekend. I think it's right to spec., but I guess I could be wrong.
