my boyfriend ordered a couple of hitech battery connectors so he could make me a battery for my transmitter.

Well, the battery charged great, the connector fit perfectly. However, it must have been mislabled when we ordered it because the polarity was wrong and it fried my transmitter :(

I plugged the battery in, and it fit great, turned on the radio. Nothing happened. I th ought I didn't have it plugged in correctly. So I turned the transmitter off, tried it again. Same thing. I took a closer look at the plug and I smelled burnt electronics. I thought Oh NO! THe battery wasn't warm, (I originally thought the battery malfunctioned) and the transmitter wasn't warm. The smell originated from the transmitter.
It does turn on however, in Heli mode, the idle on is stuck on. Wont' turn off, if we change it to another program that isn't a heli then it seems okay. The battery voltage shows 15.5 V on the orginal batter which is never above 10.5 on a full charge.

CRAP CRAP CRAP CRAP CRAP CRAP! :arggg: So my boyfriend is going to mail it to Hitech tomorrow to see if they can't figure out what happened. He will also pay for any cost associated with fixing it too. However, if it is not worth fixing, (cost to fix it vs cost to get another radio) I will be getting a new radio out of the deal. :)

Sorry to hear about the radio. :DOH

But hopefully it can be fixed or you can upgrade. Mistakes happen, nobody is perfect.

Sorry bout your radio loss.

You may want to invest in a cheap multi-meter / volt meter. They are great troubleshooting tools and allow you to validate voltage polarity...

we did check the polarity with a volt meter. That is what is so weird about it. but when you put the two plugs side by side, you see the wires are reversed.

He is so sorry. To add insult to injury, he was out flying his Bob-E-Cat today and ran the battery too low and it cut off, he crashed it. He bough this in May and has had only a few flights on it. We think he may have fried his 2-4 thunderpower prolite batter too. It did discharge and is taking a charge. So fingers crossed that he didn't loose that too. It was a very expensive weekend for us. Oye-come on good luck! Come our way!!!!

I thought all Txs were reverse polarity protected (or is that just the charging jack?)
I hate that stomach sinking feeling when you just first realise whats happend.......

What type of TX is it?

I bet if you take the back cover off there is a fuse that is in need of replacing :D :D

Just a guess as I recently did the same thing with a spare JR Tx I had.

Good point Wa11banger...I didn't think to mention that. We have spare fuses for our JR 9303 because the fast charger likes to eat those.

Go to Radio Shack. :D

it is a hitech eclipse 7.

We took it apart, and could find NO fuse anywhere. So we sent it to Hitech for repair. (fingers crossed that I will get my radio back) My boyfriend called everyone he knows to see if anyone had an extra radio we could borrow until I got mine back.

We got lucky! I am currently borriwng a Hitech Eclipse 7 with a spectra module (very similiar to mine) however, this is an older version of teh Eclipse 7. My radio had initials after it. (can't think of what they are at the moment)

So we shall see if and when I get my radio back how bad the damage is.

Jetgirl,

I had one of those for a while but I didn't use it but maybe a month or two then got my 10X. It's been a while but I may still have it, I can't remember if I sold it. If I still have it I'll send it to you and you can have it. I'll look in the morning before heading to the office and post back.

After searching my shop over I haven't found the one I had. I remember selling a plane to a friend of mine but I didn't remember letting it go with the radio.

Plan on being without it for about two weeks at least. Sorry for the bad news, but I work in San Diego, Hi-Tec is only 25 miles from work and they still had my radio for 6 days, and I hand delivered it. You're shipping from Florida. Good Luck and sorry for your radio loss.
